Stupid people don’t know how to use them . They break down all the time . People in charge of them can’t usually solve the problem so they just put an “ out of order “ sign on them .

I will avoid Albertsons. I do not want to talk to their unionized labor force.

Oh gag, just let me look at the lines and decide how I want to check out. I’m not there to chat!

"We just want the opportunity to talk to customers more," Albertsons spokeswoman Christine Wilcox said. "That's the driving motivation."

I don't believe them.

I think the motivating factor is that self-checkout makes shoplifting easier.

But I don't blame them for not saying it.

Watch Albertsons become a political, governmental target now for being constructive, and job preserving.

My bank teller was instructed by her management to inform me of the conveinences of on line banking. I pointed out to her that nothing online is secure, and if I did not insist on coming in for a micro-interactive event in person, she would not have a ....job.

Likely a smart move. They are problematic especially for produce and such.

Same thing at home improvement stores. When you get bolts, nuts, fittings etc. the scanner never works properly.

Our local Walmart got ride of the self-check out aisles.

I asked one of the asian clerks why? She said minorities were causing too much ‘shrinkage’ by walking out of the store with unpaid for items which set up confrontations with security.

Sounds like a terrible idea, go for it.

I like self check out. My groceries get bagged the way I want them bagged. I can check all the prices for accuracy. And best of all, I don’t end up stuck behind somebody who is telling their life story to the cashier.

I did the same thing. I responded, “Then they wouldn’t need you.”

I agree that supermarket self-checkouts tend to be problematic. As you said, produce is the biggest problem.

I’ve had better experiences with them in the home improvement stores, though.

I will use the self-checkout as an option when I only have a few items. It’s easy to use - sometimes - and when I’m in a hurry, it’s very convenient.

And what was her reaction? Did she acknowledge that she has a job because of people like you, going to the bank in person? Or did the concept go over her head?

And they will still only open five of their twenty five lines up and let people stand in line twenty minutes.

Unless I have only one or two items I do not use these.

NSTIW: Bought some glassware once and attempted to use one of these to checkout. After swiping the glass I set it in the bag. Register said I needed to put the item in the bag. Took it out and placed it in the bag again. Register said I did not. Called for assistance. Store person said I had to drop it in the bag. Glass + Drop = breakage. Asked for a demonstration, glass broken. Closed out the sale and went to a people register.

I'm a big fan of the self-check out lines, but truth be told, for the express lines, they're really not that efficient.

There's always some really old person or foreigner puzzling over how to operate them, and the processor in most of those things seems better geared to running a digital wristwatch.

Alberton’s has closed so many stores here it’s ridiculous. Probably from dumb ideas similar to this.

I love these things. Sure there are fools that don’t know what they’re doing but if they have 4 of them you can usually get out a lot faster unless you have booze.

I always wondered if increased shoplifting was a problem with self-checkout. I figured it would be relatively easy for dishonest people to “forget” to scan a couple of items in their carts.
