Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama is seeking $3 trillion to $4 trillion in deficit cuts over the next decade, a move that would require putting Social Security, Medicare, defense spending and tax reform on the table as part of a balanced approach to cuts, Democratic officials familiar with the negotiations told CNN.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, did not say what types of cuts would have to be considered under such a proposal. In the past, one Social Security adjustment debt negotiators have discussed is cost-of-living.

if he thinks his base is going to vote for him, look over at DUmmieland, never ever seen that scale of widespread disaffection and wailing in the last 4 years, its like Obama just shot them through the heart.

I dont think its out of the question that huge swathes of Dems stay home in 2012, the trust of Obama has gone in many of their eyes and if that lot, the hardcore is faltering, Obama is screwed.

Well then, Republican "Officials" should say loudly and often:

OK...We'll see your $3 to $4 trillion in cuts and raise you another trillion!

It would be funny if the dummies and the rest of the rats push for someone to primary him.

Its just posturing. Whatever happens here, he will spend 2012 saying that he is the true deficit hawk because he wanted $4 trillion in cuts. Its kind of like the arsonist who wants credit because he demanded that more water be poured on the fire he had set.

Its good he’s caving, but these cuts are meaningless.

He’s adding $1.5 trillion a year in new debt. Cutting $250 billion off of that still won’t save the country.

make numbers look bigger by multiplying by 10,

Lately sometimes they multiply by 15, for no rational reason except pure demagoguery.

Remeber how the Democrats always wanted to know how the Bush tax cuts were "paid for"? To them a tax cut is spending; a tax hike is a spending cut.

You can be sure that part of that $3-$4T cut is a tax hike.

Exactly right. In the end, there is no other ultra-liberal kook who could peel off much of the disaffected leftist vote. He’s secure with that cohort. Now he can play up fantasy-land to win the great unwashed wishy-washy middle.

thats around $300-400 billion per year.

Exactly!

This doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

A fart in a hurricane would be more noticeable than this.

Never in my life thought I could see 3 to 4 TRILLION dollars become trivialized.

This is ridiculous!

Two to three trillion over 10 years? A drop in the bucket. I’m beginning to think Onada is smoking an illegal substance again. Surely a person in charge of all his faculties would realize how stupid he sounds.

After hearing this latest crock from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, I'm thinking of Munich 1938 and Boehner taking the role of Neville Chamberlain.

Everyone with a lick of common sense knows that we have a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

The Pubbies have done a very poor job of framing the debate. The question, that should be asked 1000 times a day is:

"When is enough...ENOUGH?"

Families that make over $400K in taxable income are already paying over 1/3 of their earnings to the federal government. Add in state & local taxes, Social Security & Medicare taxes, and you're pretty damn close to 50%, if not more.

One day the news in Nashville switched to Chicago or Detroit. The reporter there was waiting on the main story, so; she filled in by stating that each school in the city was at 98 percent plus on free or subsidized meals for every school after stating the school name and percentage. I wondered if anyone paid for their kids food?

The thing to keep an eye on here is that he is treating tax cuts as an expense, so that eliminating the Bush tax cuts, or any part thereof, becomes a “reduction in spending”. New definition of chutzpah. A tax raise = a spending cut. Most important, watch how the MSM facilitates the Doublespeak. It all comes from the notion that everything begins with, and really belongs to, the government to begin with.

I’m finally realizing that Socialism is really Feudalism on Steroids.
