DeMint Calls Romney a ‘Good Candidate’
NRO ^ | July 6, 2011 | Katrina Trinko

Sen. Jim DeMint, whose push for more conservative senate candidates in the 2010 cycle lead to several primary challenges, is open to endorsing Mitt Romney.

“I endorsed Romney last time, and I think he’s a good candidate,” DeMint tells National Review Online today in an office visit. “I’m not going to hold any one or two things against a candidate that they’ve done. I’ve had some bum votes in my life.”

Instead of a perfect voting record, DeMint is looking for “the ability to inspire and show some courage and I think, take on our own party in some cases.” He calls Romney a “certainly viable” candidate.

The thing is that DeMint sought out Mitt Romney way back in 2006, after we already knew that Romney had to give up on reelection, was leaving office with a 34% approval rating, had appointed 75% non republican judges, and was totally a failed liberal Governor, etc.

Yet there is Jim DeMint wanting to be Senior Adviser to his exploratory committee for President, and then being campaign Chairman of his 2008 election run.

Jim DeMint also served as campaign Committee Chairman for another, very special candidate in 2008, Lindsey Graham.

Yep, Palin’s really the only one to meet that description.

DeMint a national co-chair for Romney? That's not some endorsement, that's going all in!

I must wonder why some around here want DeMint as the nominee. perhaps they don't know about his close relationship with Romney. Those same people probably slag Rick Perry because he spoke for Rudy in FL back in '08.

I’ll feel a lot better about DeMint when 2012 is over and I know that he can’t serve as Mitt Romney’s secret weapon, to win the nomination.

Until then I remain very alert and suspicious of everything that DeMint does, including the way that he maintains his profile, which is higher than normal, but beneath that of the presidential candidates, I even wonder if that book of his is a part of what appears to me to be a steady, persistent, vice presidential campaign.

... and Perry called Gore a good candidate and Palin called McCain a good candidate...

And I took a good dump earlier today. But we don't need any more BS Republican candidates.

“Governor Romney has reminded us that he’s a world-class political contortionist.”

I don’t give him that much credit. But the liberal RINO is trying to sound like a tea partyer.

I don't think that DeMint’s endorsement means much. Tea Partiers won't vote for Romney in the primaries no matter what DeMint says, and "blue" Republicans will vote for Romney regardless. Also, endorsements don't matter in the general election.

Mittens “take on our own party” like McStupid does.

What is wrong with politicans in DC? I thought Demint had a brain but I guess he was just out to gain leverage over the Tea Party. Good to know.
