‘She’s not responsive at all’: 911 tape overhears woman struggling for life after botched abortion

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico, July 6, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A chilling 911 call from an abortion clinic, in which a clinic worker describes the worsening condition of a botched abortion victim, has been released by Operation Rescue.

The pro-life group published the recording of a call from the UNM Center for Reproductive Health (UNMCRH) in a Youtube video on June 30.

“She’s unresponsive right now. I can hear them trying to,” the staffer is overheard saying, after which there seems to be heard some commotion. “Can you hear them? They’re calling her name out right now,” she adds.

The staffer says at first that the woman is awake, then that she is responding “better” and “starting to breathe again.”

“Is she breathing completely normal?” asks the dispatcher, to which the staffer responds, “no.” Another staffer confirms that the woman’s breathing is irregular, and that her skin is beginning to turn ashen.

“She’s like grayish,’” says the woman.

All the while, what appears to be the sound of the woman gasping for breath is often heard in the background. “Keep breathing. Breathe deeper. Good. Good. Deep breath,” voices can be heard saying. The woman is deemed “not responsive at all” before the call is terminated.

Operation Rescue notes that the anonymous woman was transported to a hospital for emergency care, and that her fate is unknown. The group also says that New Mexico has “virtually no laws” regulating abortion.

“There are thousands of calls like this out there, but pro-life researchers are often blocked from receiving them,” Operation Rescue notes at the end of the Youtube video. “This silencing of public information only serves to ensure that more calls like this will continue.” (See Operation Rescue’s report here.)

Pro-life advocates on the state level frequently fight for higher standards of operation at abortion clinics, such as requiring that abortionists have local hospital privileges and that medical equipment, such as gurneys, can fit in the building. However, abortion providers routinely fight any such regulations in court: most recently, new regulations in Kansas were blocked by a judge at the request of two local facilities.

The problem of unregulated clinics hit the national limelight in March 2010, when Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell’s practice was found by investigators to be so shockingly filthy that the building was dubbed a “House of Horrors.” Investigators only stumbled upon the facility after the botched-abortion death of Karnamaya Mongar, who died thanks to medical emergency personnel’s inability to transport her out of a cluttered building, the rear exit of which was padlocked shut.

Scores of victims later emerged to testify against Gosnell, who now faces a possible death penalty for murder for the death of several newborn infants and one mother.

Another sordid abortion practice came to light last year after officials learned that abortionist Stephen Chase Brigham had routinely transported patients mid-abortion from New Jersey to Maryland, where he dodged a restriction on late-term abortions and other regulations. He did not have hospital privileges in the state. His practice only came to light after Brigham transported a heavily bleeding 18-year-old abortion patient in the back of his Chevrolet Malibu to a local hospital, where bewildered staff questioned who he was and where he came from.

Late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart, who recently relocated his practice to Maryland, also has no hospital privileges in the state, which does not regulate abortion clinics as surgical facilities.

Exactly, we have no idea how often this happens.

Remember “back-alley abortions”? They were the reason we needed “safe, legal abortion.”

I believe I saw stats here on FR a year or two ago that demonstrated far more die and are maimed from the “safe legal” variety than ever occurred in back alleys.

Will the media mount a campaign?

Not even the vaunted Fox News whose “culture warriors” think pro-choice and pro-gay are just fine and dandy.

Deaths from "back alley" abortions dropped dramatically with the development of antibiotics and sulfa drugs.

Abortion is the most common surgery in America, it is by far the most dangerous elective surgery and it is totally unnecessary in over 99% of cases.

That is correct. The libs love to use this rationale (abortion is safer when legalized), but it is entirely built on lies.

I'd go further and bet that there NEVER WERE any abortions where a woman took a coat hanger and went into and alley to maim herself - then died as a result. If there were any at all, they could likely be counted on one hand.

It's nothing but leftist agitprop myth making.

One of the lies of the pro-abortion people is that women used to die in "back alley" abortions but now they don't. More proof that this is a disgusting lie. No one is allowed to know how many women die from abortions.

The woman in this call found out the hard way; I wonder what she’ll say to God? I wonder if she has already met Him? What must one feel like to know a beloved family member or firend died taking part in a murder like this?

I was born as the bastard child of a single mom in New Mexico during the summer of ‘69. I thank God it was before Roe v. Wade.

Yes, thank God. There are many women who would love to be in your mom’s situation...that is, having a child who is now a grown man, no matter what the hardships, but instead they have nothing and nobody because of abortion.

And it is mind-boggling to think of how many people who might have had to struggle at first but would have gone on to live good lives never got born thanks to Roe v Wade.

But, but, but legalizing abortion was supposed to prevent these “back alley abortion” type problems.
Another pro abortion myth deep sixed.

“I was born as the b****** child...”

You can refer to your birth in any way you like but I hate the term b******. To me, it puts a stigma on the child and not a good one. Your birth parent was unwed but she did the selfless act of allowing you to be adopted by wonderful, loving people. I am sure your family never referred to you as the adopted b child.
