Saying it won't force California customers to pay sales tax on their Internet purchases, Amazon.com is severing ties with 10,000 small businesses and individuals here who funnel shoppers to the online bazaar through their websites.

The defiant action came hours after Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation that would have required Amazon to start collecting a 7.25% base tax on online purchases

“attack mode” is nothing more than rhetorical demonstration?

Puhleeze.

The money being talked about is NOT free money.

It is money that was forcefully taken from workers checks thru out the years, with the promise that they would have a return at retirement.

I sincerely hope you are not forced into a similar situation.

But you may understand it if you are.

My. my, I am disappointed that an all knowing genius (/s) such as yourself does not know that SSI (a 100% welfare entitlement) has nothing whatsoever to do with SS. All blow and no know public school product of today you be, or heck, maybe even a Haaavaad fence post turtle grad hey?

Amazon was one of the truly genius applications of the web (and yes I am a former employee of a dot.bomb) - they digitized both the book store and then the mom & pop store. eBay was the other one, digitizing the yard sale and mom & pop stores and creating a world-wide catalog. That is enormous presence and power. I welcome that they flex it especially at one of the most irresponsible governments in history.

You bloody damn right we will. For most of my working life I paid the maximum amount every year into SS as demanded by a confiscatory law.

And for most of your life, did you even try to vote out the Democrats and Republicans who busily looted whatever surpluses were generated by Social Security?

Older generations of Americans had many chances to end the Social Security Ponzi scheme; instead, they chose to pass the buck to a future generation.

Bull****. You were frigging complicit and you know it. All you senior citizen frauds are out there railing against all the 'waste' and 'abuse' in the 'system' and then in your next wheezing breaths you all scream "but don't you touch my SS or Medicare!". Well take a look at the charts, grampa and you tell me where to cut to stave off the inevitable bankruptcy that's coming.

I didn't ask for your stupid, unsustainable Social Security program. I dont' frigging want it, either. But what I'm not going to do is let people like you guilt trip me into supporting something that never should have come into being in the first place. It's not my fault your generation got all used to being paid off by a bunch of thieves.

But it's for damned sure I don't have to play ball with it, and I won't.

AMEN!!!

You are right, you are not a 3rd or 4th generation welfare parasite creep, but you are a greedy, selfish fool.

(1) There is no money for you to grab - you will have to stand in line like all of those other 3rd and 4th generation welfare parasite creeps to steal if from someone who is Producing. Pushing and shoving your way to the teat; stealing bread from a Producer's table so you can stuff your face because, as you rationalize, "you paid into it".

(2) Social Security is not a personal loan that you made with the Feral Government - you were swindled into a Ponzi Scheme and willfully played along rather than work to stop the thieving. Our generation is doing what your generation was too greedy and selfish to do - stop the madness.

(3) You are right, it is not an entitlement. The courts have already ruled that Social Security is not a Right. There is no law that obligates future generations to give up their own earnings, live in a deprecated life, toil longer and harder so you can coast in familiar luxury. SSI can be canceled at any time and payments stop. In fact, Barry is contemplating stopping payments now in retaliation for the GOP not bumping up (again) that political farce of a Debt Limit

(4) Many of us still Producing while you are lazying around bitching about your future in freeloading off of your neighbors have put in SSI at a much higher percentage and under a greater cap than those looting the system now. I don't expect a dime from the system - only the promise of higher rates and much higher caps - just so you can enjoy the extended life-span also afforded by me and other Producers in the form of welfare Medicaid, Medicare and other hand-out wealth transfer programs.

(5) You have had the benefit of decades of the Reagan Revolution to make your fortune and save for your own retirement. Now, with an F-U attitude you look at your neighbor who has to survive in this economic environment where our costs are going through the roof and we didn't have the opportunities that you squandered, and you demand that we give up the last that we have - for what? So you can afford the full satellite TV package in your pusher RV?

So you can bitch and moan about how much money you put in, but in the end you are nothing more than a selfish greedy bastard who wouldn't mind slashing your neighbor's throat if that is what it took to get your next precious welfare Social Security check. To me you are no different than any other person who is riding along in the cart dragging their feet and complaining about how bumpy the free ride is.

It disgusts me, particularly around Independence Day where slobs are demanding that the younger generations lose even more of our liberty and more of the fruits of our labor so that the welfare SSI dependency checks keep rolling in. You have willingly made yourself a tool for Obama to use in his quest to destroy the country. Your selfish demands to further bankrupt this nation work hand in glove with his goals. Congratulations.

This needs to be repeated over and over again!

Down with Socialist InSecurity!!!

My, my, you are such a brave talking person. How old are you? Why aren’t you refusing to pay your FICA taxes, TODAY, instead of lecturing oldsters about yesteryear? You sound like Obama blaming George Bush for all your ails. What’s your problem, no guts? I mean you now have the chance to be a martyr for your hate the elderly clique to emulate? Why don’t you just show us old turds how brave you really are and just get it done NOW?, What, no guts, all blow and no go?

You and Theophilus are just a couple of yakie the yak keyboard commandos, all hat and no cattle, all talkie the talk, but no nerve to walkie the walk. Such as you really think history only started on the day you were born, how very pathetic you new age weaklings be.

Every penny you paid in is long gone. The money going in goes right back out with fewer and fewer workers paying in to cover each retiree taking it out. Let me digress by saying if we hadn't murdered millions of unborn there wouldn't be this crisis of too few workers per retiree.

However, for decades we've been hearing about "Social Security reform" so younger workers would have something to show for what they paid in. Nothing's happened. Each successive generation has not put the pressure on the political class to GET IT DONE.

It hasn't happened because of the tension created between the "old people" scared senseless by Democrat demagoguery and cynical apathy of the young who don't believe they'll ever see a dime back anyway.

Need a refresher on how this plays out? Look at the ads against the Ryan plan on Medicare that helped elect a Democrat in a Republican district this year.

Personally, I'm opposed to raising the retirement age. That's just a scam to push the "payoff" further out meaning more people simply won't live to collect on something they were compelled to pay into.

If we're to continue this entitlement farce, we need a new sustainable system with a transition from one generation to another like Ryan proposed. It just won't happen because it's a hideously complicated topic, we have morons in office unable to articulate the plan and the other side wants the issue to use as a political weapon as they have reliably for decades.

Democrats will simply not allow it because the specter of crisis works for them politically. It would take a filibuster-proof Republican government to shove it down their throats but the GOP'd probably end up in the political wilderness afterward rather than get credit for finally solving the problem.

I'm not convinced the will exists anywhere to reform an entitlement. Hell, we just saw a new leviathan entitlement created in the form of ObamaCare!

We're not in the early 20th century, if we haven't figured out how to save and plan for retirement with 401K, Roth IRA, private pensions and other things out there, our education has failed us and the political class has conned us. Worse, they want to keep on conning us and we let them because we're busy trying live lives and make up for what they take!

The old Social Security system could have become irrelevant, even by now, as successive generations became wealthier, more sophisticated and with better options for retirement savings and investment. Seeing it EOL'd, while needs were met by individuals, would be a true sign of progress.

I never said anything about refusing to pay taxes.

I did, however, say everything about voting out the Republicans and Democrats who were jointly looting the surpluses.

but no nerve to walkie the walk

Oh, I do have the nerve to walk the walk.

If your generation decides that it's time to "soak the young" with taxes, I'll vote with my feet, and plenty of other young Americans like me will do the same.

I'm sure that's what the liberals in California, New York, and Illinois are saying about all the people and businesses leaving their states each year.

If Dems, illegal aliens, unions, and those who keep demanding ever greater entitlements for themselves succeed in permanently crippling the US economy, thereby killing the Golden Goose, the rank and file members will suffer, but the leaders like Obama would probably feel right at home in a future in which vote buying is a lot worse than it is now.

Well Sea Parrot, I was not a part of this until you drew me in on accident.

I'm sorry to say that the Socialist Security ponzi scheme that you are entitled to, has been aborted by the SCOTUS which has sanctified the murder of 60,000,000+ of Socialist Security's future victims since 1973 not to mention the billions that have been murdered by abortifacient birth control pills.

I myself have ten children who may become slaves to the Socialist Security ponzi scheme. But then they can vote and hopefully they will break the pyramid and the chains before their children are enslaved. I'm teaching them. They will out vote you. Hopefully you have children to take care of you and other alternative means for when the abominable disgusting lie of Socialist Security ends.

I would rather die than steal one penny from my children.
