The sexual assault case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn is on the verge of collapse as investigators have uncovered major holes in the credibility of the housekeeper who charged that he attacked her in his Manhattan hotel suite in May, according to two well-placed law enforcement officials.
Although forensic tests found unambiguous evidence of a sexual encounter between Mr. Strauss Kahn, a French politician, and the woman, prosecutors do not believe much of what the accuser has told them about the circumstances or about herself.
Since her initial allegation on May 14, the accuser has repeatedly lied, one of the law enforcement officials said.
Senior prosecutors met with lawyers for Mr. Strauss-Kahn on Thursday and provided details about their findings, and the parties are discussing whether to dismiss the felony charges. Among the discoveries, one of the officials said, are issues involving the asylum application of the 32-year-old housekeeper, who is Guinean, and possible links to criminal activities, including drug dealing and money laundering.
Prosecutors and defense lawyers will return to State Supreme Court in Manhattan on Friday morning, when Justice Michael J. Obus is expected to consider easing the extraordinary bail conditions that he imposed on Mr. Strauss-Kahn in the days after he was charged.

Your analogy is flawed. You said you hoped S-K was convicted of a crime he did not commit. OJ committed armed robbery and was convicted of same. There is no indication the jury wrongly convicted an innocent man.
You should not be pleased to see the justice system convict any man who is innocent of the crime he is accused of.

hmmmm, if she WAS involved in some other suspicious activity and this was NOT rape, it would be very UNLIKELY that she would go to the police.

She probably lied to get into the US (as did Hirsi Ali to get into the Netherlands). Big deal. And she lives in a bad neighborhood and “knows” a drug dealer. Another big deal.
Was her conversation with a jailed drug dealer because he spoke French and he is a relative or the only one she knows and trusts who can advise her in legal matters?
I’m betting she told the truth, and they are going to scare her to lying to take back the charges, like “nicole” ended up doing to clear “Cpl Smith” here in the Philippines...(that took three years of pressuring the poor girl...and she retracted because they convinced her that was statuatory rape i.e. she was so drunk she couldn’t give assent and she’d probably lose...and then paid her off with money and a US visa).
I’ve heard two stories about the guy in this case. He claims either no sex or consensual sex. Which one?
If he knows he left DNA behind, he’ll just claim that this lady “asked” for sex (as in the Kennedy nephew case) but then again, you have trauma, and he’d have to convince the jury that she wanted ‘rough sex”. (Kennedy’s nephew managed to convince the jury of that too.)
In this case, one suspects evidence of trauma on her exam or DNA on the carpet and her clothing that made the cops pounce on him...

Give me a break. I deal with immigration issues as part of a group that lobbies on the Hill and at the state level. I question how she could have possibly received asylum in this country. This case seems to be more similar to the Duke rape case. We have a "poor" black immigrant hotel maid who was pounced on by a rich white guy and raped. Do you really believe that the head of the IMF would forcibly rape this woman the morning he was leaving the country? And that it ocurred by happenstance, i.e., she just happened to enter the room and he came out of the shower and raped her? Strauss-Kahn has said from the very beginning that the sex was consensual.
I am fairly confident that even more will come out about this woman who was far from being an innocent victim. It may have been a frame-up.
