The Transportation Security Administration stood by its security officers Sunday after a Florida woman complained that her cancer-stricken, 95-year-old mother was patted down and forced to remove her adult diaper while going through security.
Reports of the incident took hold in social media, with scores of comments on the topic and reposts appearing hourly on Twitter Sunday afternoon.
The TSA released a statement Sunday defending its agents' actions at the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport.
"While every person and item must be screened before entering the secure boarding area, TSA works with passengers to resolve security alarms in a respectful and sensitive manner," the federal agency said. "We have reviewed the circumstances involving this screening and determined that our officers acted professionally and according to proper procedure."
Jean Weber told CNN's Fredricka Whitfield on Sunday that the security officers may have been procedurally correct, but she still does not believe they were justified, especially given her mother's frail condition.

What ever became of the much ballyhooed “trusted traveler” program? Why is it not possible to detect the kinds of explosives that last year’s (fortunately failed) underwear bomber used? If “groping” is the front line of defense, some jihadi will simply hide the explosive in an ungropable manner. TSA was signed into law by the Smirking Chimp on November 19, 2001. Many of the abuses of today were signed into to law by him after being passed by the GOP majority for six years of his term. The TSA beast was a GOP product.
People need too wake up and realize the GOP has as many tyrants sitting in congress as the Democratic Party and hate us just as much as the DEMs. I am very glad I have absolutely no reason to ever fly anywhere again.

The practice of professional politicians and, particularly this administration, to convince people that their problems can all be solved by government programs has made them focused on their own selfish needs. By appealing to people’s emotions and not their intellect, they have made people believe that our Constitution guarantees their happiness.
But, the words of the Constitution do not grant everyone equal happiness...the words of our Constitution allows for “the PURSUIT of happiness." Politicians have ignored that most important word...pursuit...and, therein, lays the problem and the wedge being used to pit one person who might have less against another who has more. We are guaranteed the right and freedom to achieve, to build a business, to create a future...but we are not guaranteed a right to have what we did not work for or pay for.
Unfortunately, bleeding heart liberals sing the song of "equality" while we are all becoming equally broke and dependent on government programs as those with socialist agendas are grabbing power, destroying our liberties, and reducing us to serfdom like living.
Dependence creates programs and policies under the guise of "helping" or, in the case of the TSA "protecting" people. What it does is corral people into the pen of thinking they have to accept and comply with ridiculous, inhumane treatment that destroys their dignity and makes them fearful of protesting against rules that take away their freedom. For one thing, my 90 year old mother with a shoulder replacement decided already that she will not fly any more due to the crap they put her through 3 years ago. If I were watching my Mom or grandchild being mauled by the TSA nazis, I would go bonkers. That’s why I refuse to fly - so what to do? Go there with the idea that I will be arrested? Be prepared for a real mauling by the TSA nazis? I have an ultra-conservative Congressman and he is worthless on this issue.
