New York votes to allow same-sex marriage

[…Liberal Republicans cave, pass “gay marriage” in NY…]

Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, vowed that in conjunction with the state's Conservative Party, his group would spend more than $1 million targeting lawmakers who supported the bill in the next election.

"All [the vote] means is that Gov. Cuomo was able to strongarm and push through, because of the weakness of some Republicans, a gay marriage bill," Brown said. "It doesn't go away and we're going to make sure the people are held accountable."

Cuomo was said to be determined to see the legislation passed in time for Manhattan's Gay Pride weekend; he was also so confident that he gave advocates approval to print signs "recognizing his leadership."

O'Donnell first introduced a same-sex marriage bill in 2007. The Assembly approved it three times in five years, only to see it fail each time in the Senate. This effort, backed by a new Democratic governor, worked. A pivotal moment came last week when three Democrats and one Republican who voted against same-sex marriage in 2009 changed sides, saying they were swayed by public opinion in their districts.

When a second Republican, Sen. Roy McDonald, announced his support, proponents needed just one more vote for passage. McDonald said his decision was based on his conscience as much as constituents' opinions. "You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing," he said.

If NY had brains, NYers would leave NY now, like it had accepted the plague in its midst.

The proof of racism of the region is that people do leave the areas when black people move in, but not when gays move in.

Technically the title is wrong. New Yorkers didn’t vote, their representatives did.

Well, there went my supper! What a disgusting, vile photo!

Romans 1:18-32.

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Which is how it is done in a REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC, which is what ate founders wanted. We are not a mobocracy, where are rights are subject to the whim of the fickle sheeple.

Between abortion, homosexual “rights,” Obama vs. Palin, welfare deadbeats vs. producers, government unions vs. taxpayers, ACORN et al, vs. the Tea Party and private sector unions vs. business owners/stockholders, there’s a civil war brewing that’ll make the 19th century one look like a 3rd grade Sunday school play.

You missed the point entirely.

One, the nation being a representative republic has nothing to do with what's happening inside individual state, how it's organized and governed. Some, like CA, allow voters to directly pass law or amend the state constitution through an initiative process.

Two, the article title is propagandist. Normally when a legislature passes law, the press say "Lawmakers vote to," or something similar, as a way to distinguish between a vote of the People and actions taken by their representatives. This was a rhetorical slight-of-hand.

The divide does look like it's getting wider and deeper. We see the federal government working hard to make all states more alike in a distinctly and only "progressive" direction on all issues.

It sues states, it issues mandates, it fights laws designed to protect state sovereignty on issues traditionally reserved for them (like marriage), works to undermine states that are right-to-work over unionized ones and so forth.

If NY wants same-sex marriage, for example, their decision should not be used to spread the same to other states who want something else.

As bad as things are now nationally, imagine the economic catastrophe if all states were run like CA or Illinois. You wouldn't have bright spots of low unemployment like ND or of job creation like TX. Forget about foreign investors willing to loan us money to prop us up. Capital would flee American faster than ever. We're nearing these points even now, despite the bright spots!

“Straight people don’t want to hear about this crap.”

So you’re “gay” according to your logic? LOL: And how do you know gay people don’t visit this site?

Seriously, redefining marriage impacts on everyone, from gay to straight. Think about adoption laws (a legal interest of mine) and persecution of church speech (a living reality). In Canada, they’re heading for polygamy, and by the looks of it, more messed up kids.

I know gays and straights against gay marriage, so I’m not sure what your point is. I’m not sure why you’re posting photos of adults in bed either. You can save them for another site. This is a serious issue.

I agree the title is misleading! Good point. The people should have been given the right to vote.

Yeah – when you put it that way…excellent point. I just hope conservatives continue to fight for what they believe in.

Even in CA the electorate has the right to vote, and they voted against same-sex “marriage,” so is NYS even MORE liberal than Caleefornia? It looks like NYers are slaves to the govt..

Even though he was unpopular, former Gov. Paterson also proposed a same-sex bill, and according to this NYTimes piece, it was rare:

“Gov. David A. Paterson introduced a bill on Thursday to legalize same-sex marriage, vowing to personally involve himself in the legislative debate at a level that is RARE (emphasis mine) for a chief executive in New York.”

snip http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/17/nyregion/17marriage.html?_r=1&hp

It seems the libDems push the law to the limit, while Republicans politely don’t even do what they are supposed to do.

. . .

I don’t see anything coming from it other than them potentially losing their jobs and that’s really no big deal. I’m sure they’ll live quite comfortably in whatever career path they take next and their firing changes nothing.

This just about covers the reasons God is going to let the consequences fall in America. Look what our leaders, elected by a lazy, self-centered, and ignorant population have wrought. All will suffer and the politically correct will see their distorted view of life vanish when everything breaks down. Man longs to take the power of God unto himself/herself and it will not happen. If you could remove the “fringe” from our nation which is the Northeast, particularly NY and Washington D.C. and California in the West, plus Chicago, we would have a good country. This will not happen, of course, so the natural consequences of going against what is rational, according to God and nature, will come down..Again, folks, live as best you can, while helping your neighbors how and if you can..Pray and gain wisdom through reading good books about how we came to be a handful of all the people of the world who have been born from the beginning of time, to enjoy this rare freedom for a brief moment in time. And, do not lose hope that God will send some kind of miracle, like changing hearts, to turn these things around and place the power of government in the hands of folks who have not become accustomed to practicing the power of dishonesty and deceit. God will not be mocked..All is well. Have a good weekend, everyone.
