New York The GOP presidential candidate worth $200 million tells a group of jobless Floridians that he's unemployed, too. Will voters get the joke?
Speaking with a group of unemployed Floridians on Thursday, Mitt Romney offered to "tell my story," too, starting with the fact that "I'm also unemployed." Romney chuckled, and so did the group of eight Florida voters. Democrats were less amused, pointing out that a full-time presidential candidate worth $200 million, while technically looking for work, probably shouldn't compare himself with struggling Americans. Romney's "brand of aw-shucks, cornball humor" has long been hit or miss, says Jonathan Weisman in The Wall Street Journal. Will this particular joke come back to haunt him?
Yes. Romney clearly isn't ready for prime time: The Republican frontrunner's "gift for odd, awkward, delusional gaffes" is almost unparalleled, says Tom Levenson at Balloon Juice. It's no wonder the "ridiculously wealthy Romney" can't persuade "the common clay that he is just like the least among us." He isn't. Stick to attacking President Obama, Mittens. "Not ready for prime time"
Give Mitt a break: It's true that Romney is playing the same "silly political games" with some of Obama's verbal miscues on unemployment, says Jay Bookman at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. But still, "give it a break, people. Seriously." Mitt "was actually being kind of funny" here. But more importantly, it's a long time between now and the election, and we should let the candidates "be human between now and then." "In defense of Mitt Romney, amateur (unemployed) comedian"

Random stupid remarks may or may not stick and cause undue harm. Remember, he’s running against a President who thinks ATM’s cause unemployment and once sought to ingratiate himself with the common man by complaining about the price of arugula at Whole Foods Market.
You are exactly right and I’m not even asking that people dismiss reality what I’m asking is that they step back and really look at reality and how it differs from convention wisdom because when the rubber meets the road it isn’t the Gerald Fords that forwarded our goals it was the Ronald Reagans. We’ve seen what the men from the best schools can do. And their destruction and ignorance is enshrined in the size and sccope of our federal govt. We’ve seen what men who’ve never had to work a day in the real world do (FDR). Isn’t it time we had a practical commonsense President. They certainly couldn’t do any worse.
Why are you defending the man? You most certainly would not if he were Obama. 100% of the reason I’d never vote for Mitt Romney is based on his record as Gov of MA but then again you don’t really want to look at his record do you? You just want the handsome devil waltz in the White House. Is that it?
She is waiting....learning....guarding the "cubs"....staying mostly quiet with an occasional "roar".....reconning the enemies from within and without.....studying weaknesses....practicing....endlessly practicing....reading...recognizing strengths....finding vulnerabilities....
Patience.....patience....
Wait for it!
And keep the faith....
When "it" occurs....I cannot wait to see the faces of the likes of the "nose in the air, simpering kraut-hamer, the "oh so superior" traitor rove, the "know it all", meglomaniac o'reilly, and the moon faced, lisping little dicky morris!!! It will have been worth the wait!
But as General Patton said, "If everyone is thinking alike, someone isn't thinking." And if ever there were a group of worthless kloned non-thinking deadheads, it's this group.
You have that right. It just amazes me with the level of microanalysis aimed at nearly all the other candidates and those that push Romney can’t even see that the man is weak and dispassionate. Plus God help him when Obama and his minions have at him. Palin had the advantage that her record is one of standing up to money and power. Mitt Romney has never lived a day outside of it.
A Joe Biden moment if there ever was one. That’s for sure!
Much like his father’s brainwashing comment.
The key is I don’t want my own Obamalite in the White House. Mitt Romney is not one of us and I’ll not defend him like he deserves it. What he said was stupid. How it plays is irrespective of it. It is far more stupid in context that he had just criticized the President for something similiar. It is also insensitive. It would be like making a rape joke while visiting a rape counsling session. “Oh yeah I was raped too, my wife is an animal when the lights go out!”.
Yeah and this is not the first but of course no one is keeping tally. I liked the one when he suggested “Obama be hung...”. Romney for his sake should bow out because he will be eaten alive and none of the strongest most committed conservative troops will be there for him. He’ll have “Republicans” defending him of course in their suits and ties but he will lose all the same just like Dole, just like Ford and none of the experts will comprehend why.
I'm not a Romney fan, but when Obama joked about there being no shovel ready jobs the only ones who noticed or cared was conservative talk radio. Let's not join the MSM in their hypocritical efforts to attack Republicans for every little thing while ignoring the same crap out of Obama and the Dems. This statement in particular, Yes. Romney clearly isn't ready for prime time: The Republican frontrunner's "gift for odd, awkward, delusional gaffes" is almost unparalleled, says Tom Levenson at Balloon Juice. is particularly rich coming from the same media that ignores all of Obama's many gaffes including when he made fun of Special Olympians, etc. We can have our own internal discussion on who should and shouldn't be our candidate, but to validate the MSM's silly, hypocritical and nitpicking attacks on any Republican just constitutes sleeping with the enemy. They lie in wait for every misstep from a Republican, as if during the long course of a campaign it's possible to never say the wrong thing, and pass by every stupid comment Obama and the Dems make.
The MSM is the mortal enemy of Republicans and conservatives. We should NEVER join forces with them against ANYONE Republican no matter how much we dislike them. We should defend our own against all their lame and inconsistent attacks. I'm not a Palin fan either, but I will never echo their obsessive and lame-brained attacks on her. Close ranks against these scum in the media. Don't join hands with them.
Reminds me of another gaffe-prone, multi-millionaire politician...
Someone who understands that a government budget is just like a family budget: when the money runs out, you stop going out for surf and turf every night and you simply pay the lights, water, rent and gas bills!!
How 'bout this regular American?
The left will destory him and I certainly won’t lift a finger to stop them. He doesn’t need us and we don’t need him.
I was not really pointing this at you, I was just replying to the thread.
I really want EVERYONE to see this and read and understand that if we nominate a world-class, RINO we are only perpetuating the Blame Bush (Blame Republicans) meme!
We need to nominate a TRULY CONSERVATIVE person to change the way people think about conservatism! We need a complete flushing of DC and really DRAIN THE SWAMP! Then those that we send next time will understand that politician is not a career choice, it is a privilege!!!
You can’t be a conservative from Texas. We know what a fraud he is. Do you support Obamacare? No? Then how could you support Perry who did something worse when he attempted to FORCE Texas females to be injected with a drug. And he did this via an executive order!
Perry is a douche!
Bring it on! All day! Every day!
Please God, from my keyboard to your ears! President Sarah Palin - 2012!
Agreed. Mitt F'n Kerry...
Yeah, he’s 64. In less than a year he can start to bleed the beast by taking full Social Security Retirement Benefits.
If she steps into the race, she wins the nomination. If she wins the nomination, she'll take out Obama. If she takes out Obama, she will lead this nation back to strength and prosperity.
Just as sure as the sun rises, will it be so.
