Agreed, what's in a name? Here's someone whose name was even "funnier" and he did just fine.
When I was a little kid, my pediatrician's name was "Dr. Weiner." Very successful guy who died just a few years ago. I'm sure there are lots of successful people named 'Weiner' who were also teased. There are a lot of successful people whose names aren't Weiner who were teased or taunted about something else.
The problem is not Weiner's name, it's his personality, probably his upbringing, his worldview and his arrogance.
For his sake, I sincerely hope he gets his mind right, learns a little humility, and finds happiness in some healthy pursuit rather than in lording his power over others.
As for sympathy? IMHO, he's not getting anywhere near what he deserves, a conclusion based both on what would happen to any joe-blow citizen caught in the same situation as well as Weiner's own proposed legislation regarding online predators.
