WASHINGTON — Representative Anthony D. Weiner has told friends that he plans to resign his seat after coming under growing pressure from his Democratic colleagues to leave the House in the wake of revelations of his lewd online exchanges with women, said a person told of Mr. Weiner’s plans.

The news comes as Democratic leaders prepared to hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss whether to strip the 46-year-old Congressman of his committee assignments, a blow which would severely damage his effectiveness.

A lot of Weiners say they are going to pull out, but sometimes they don't.

If this Weiner doesn't pull out in time, there's going to be a huge mess in the Chamber.

Weiner’s resignation is welcome news, but that’s not the problem in my view. The real problem is that Weiner has the OPTION to resign.

If any of us commoners had done something like Weiner did, using our employer’s facility for some of the stupidity, we’d have been fired. Congress needs to begin “firing” these losers.

Absolutely. Regardless of Party if a member brings disgrace upon their position, family and body of Congress, they should be relieved of duty. There should be due process, to avoid political setups, but it should be swift.

Vitter, Rangel, Craig, and others should have been gone too. These elected officials must be held to the highest standard and it shouldn’t be left up to their constituents, PR and an election. There should be zero tolerance.

I gotta admit, I actually sorta feel sorry for the guy too.

I mean, he is definitely a political enemy, and he should not be representing America, but he’s a human being. I hope he doesn’t do harm to himself.

I knew there must be someone out there who felt this way. I just have a bad feeling I hope he pulls through this and learns from it.

This is a direct reaction to Gloria Allred’s new client. She is known for her sexual harassment cases and the writing was on the wall that there would be incoming law suits.

It looks like he is just trying to see how long he can jerk them around before he pulls out.

I love all the other websites where the libtards keep bringing up David Vitter. Is that their only comeback?

Vitter was re-elected. Personally, I think he is a dirt bag.

But he didn't go on National Television and LIE!!! Oh and didn't text a 17 year old. I don't care if it was non sexual a 40+ year old man has no business texting a 17 year old girl.

The big issue for why Weiner is worse than anything Vitter did is the 17 year old and the fact that he LIED!!! And in addition to lying he used his minions and his bully pulpit to accuse Andrew Breitbart of being the "hacker".

I still am interested in the 17 year old girl story because if he did send sexually suggestive texts, he will go to jail.

Gloria Allred is hands down the biggest media whore in the history of the nation. She gets involved in every single national story. Then goes on Greta and argues.

I'm shocked she hasn't gotten involved in Casey Anthony yet.

The worst was her involvement in trashing Meg Whitman. But we know that Gloria Allred has no morals.

Self afflicted destruction where one was riding high one day and at the bottom the next would be very difficult to deal with the outcome. So many of these originate with sex. I consider Weiner an incompetent arrogant loser opportunist who believed he was entitled by his position to take advantage of young women at his whim.

At least Cris Lee the other NY Congressman had the integrity to immediately recognize he made a critical mistake in maintaining credibility, and resigned immediately. Weiner at first believed he could buy time and get cover.

Pee Wee Herman (Paul Reubens) pulled a similar stupid stunt when he was arrested and his career went crashing down.

I agree it would be difficult to deal with the realization that stupidity caused such a loss. It will take years to ever emotionally recover. A stupid mistake can be impossible for one to accept.

Of course, the sad part relates to his wife and the baby on the way - it’s all part of history.

“The problem is he should be stripped of his pension/health ins and what ever other perks he is going to walk away with.”

If he were in the US Military, he would be stripped of all perks.

Well, 2011 is not an election year. ... Would you like to clarify your comment?

lol ... I assumed everyone held the new standard ... that Presidential election years are between 1.5 and 2.0 calendar years long now ... (Pubes are already having debates lol)

Anything that hurts his majesty from gaining reelection, or anything that causes Dem losses in the House or Senate is negative. Since the election is 1.5 years out, if the Dems get rid of Weiner now ... people will forget.

If this was Jan. 2013, I bet Weiner would not resign.

That's what I was trying to highlight. Is my calendar counting imprecise ... technically yes.

I agree with everything except that I don’t care whether he “gets help” or not. It’s his problem and it makes not the slightest difference to me whether he spends the rest of his miserable life doing whatever perverted things he does. As long as he does not have any role in government. Period.

He should have taken more cold showers, and looked at Helen Thomas about three times a day. Don’t quit, Tony. Stay hard and firm.

I guess you have heard by now that Congress is now less one Weiner. However, so many more remain that Congress looks like the perfect dream of an urologist (and proctologist).

Another way to put this is that while New York lost a weiner, Huma still has a bun in the oven. I pity the poor kid but wish he/her well.

Tomorrow’s headlines:

“Congress loses its Weiner”

“One less prick in Congress”

“Weiner Wimps out and limps out of Congress”

“Democrats lose their Weiner”

“Barney Frank looking for missing Weiner”

This guy is the best thing for us comedian-wannabes since Bill Clinton’s dress-capade

This is good for America. Icky immoral behavior will not be tolerated, even by Democrats. The pro-porn & promiscuity lobby will not be pleased.
