Why Can’t I Connect With Michele Bachmann? (Vanity)
June 16, 2011 | Vanity

Posted on 06/16/2011 5:26:37 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Michele Bachmann should have me ringing doorbells and doing conservative flips to get her elected but she isn’t and I don’t know why.

She looks great on paper. She expresses conservatism clearly. She understands the dire situation we’re in and the remedies. She’s energetic and pleasant. She goes after the agent of our destruction. She can debate. She is attractive. She has a compelling life story.

So what’s wrong?

When Michele Bachmann is on TV or radio, or I read her words in print, she has my attention and I agree with her but as soon as she’s off the air or I move to another story, she’s lost to my mind.

I can’t be the only one who has this Michele Bachmann “condition.” This bothers me because TURNOUT will be what decides this election. TURNOUT will bring us a bullet proof Senate. TURNOUT will keep Democrat voter fraud from giving Obama 4 more years. TURNOUT will bring more states under GOP control. We need a standard bearer candidate that Americans will rally behind in earnest -- TURN OUT!

The roster of GOP candidates is varied and I will vote for the one who wins the primary. I don’t think Romney has “it.” I know Newt won’t make the grade, again – can’t. Huntsman – phewt. Ron Paul – keeps our feet to the fire but won’t beat Obama. Santorum – he had me once but now he just seems to be saying his lines. Pawlenty – I keep working on remembering that he’s in the race. Cain – another conservative voice of sanity but won’t beat Obama.

Two candidates not yet on the list – Sarah Palin and Rick Perry – they make me want to campaign for their election! They fire me up! I see them as carrying the flag and rallying the great silent majority of voters. They have “it” in spades. I want to win back the White House! Obama must go!

So what is it? I’ve tried to figure this out logically but I keep hitting an emotional wall.

Does Michele Bachmann’s energy belong in the legislature and not the executive? (Something I see as Newt’s problem (among others) – he played a big part in orchestrating the 1994 takeover, then let it wilt away – he’s not executive material, but rather a good back-bench workhorse).

I’d like your thoughts.

Maybe it’s the long odds House members face trying to get elected president. Who was the last member of the House of Representatives to get elected president? I think it was Garfield in 1880.

She’s a House Representative. Big deal.

Let her accomplish something. Then run for Pres.

Bachmann doesn’t impress me as a forceful leader.

I like Bachman too. However, the battle that has to be fought in the near future is going to be a vicious, bloody, mud-slinging battle and Michelle seems not to have that attack feature in her personality.

This is it! Our last chance to reclaim our country and it’s values and heritage. The candidate we choose has to be as hard as steel and totally uncompromising in their values along with an extremely aggressive mannerism. This is all out war!

Bachman is highly intelligent and focused on the pecuniary problems of our country but lacks the “junk yard attack dog” personality that will be required for the upcoming battle.

With that said, she would make a great Vice-President.

She's a great congress critter, I like her, just prefer a couple of others over her.

Congresscritters don't become nominees fwiw. They just don't (a lot have tried) and there's a reason for that.

I also picture a scenario like this, who would I trust to hold a shotgun to defend my family from a Grizzly bear lurking in the brush?

Mz. Pretty Smiling face, or mama Grizzly herself?

The idea that we should elect our leaders based on how they perform in debates is really a stupid idea. Leadership is not the ability to articulate a position or spin the language to make your ideas more palatable to itchy ears. Leadership is a quality that is both rare and hard to define.

Grace under pressure and the ability to fight on in the face of defeat are at least a couple of the marks of a true leader. Nobody running in this election has faced more adversity with grace than Sarah Palin has. She inspires me like no other candidate since Reagan. She continues to rise from the ashes of defeat.

Even in the face of a media blitz that has inspired death threat against her and her children, her infective smile is clealy genuine.

America needs a true leader and not an eloquent debater to lead us out of the quagmire and back to our place as the shining city on a hill. IMO Sarah Palin is the only person running right now that can can lead us up that path.

Sarah has been getting the attention but it’s really Michele who would make the best President in my mind. (Not that I wouldn’t want to see Sarah elected either.) One should recall it was Michele Bachmann that called for the big Tea Party rally on the mall on 9/12. Compared to any Republican man running today, I’d go with Michele.

This election won’t be on ideology or personality. It will be on the economy. Obama will lose but to whom? It’s important the conservatives get the right person in.

I don't think she has the attack feature either and I don't think she can withstand the attacks. Not saying she has skeletons in her closet, but I really don't think if they gave her the "Palin treatment" she would survive. Just my opinion.

IMO, it comes down to this. Bachmann had developed over the past two years into a spectacular leader of the conservative movement. She has become extremely disciplined. Problem for many of us in the conservative movement is that we strongly favor executive experience where leadership and decision making skills are on full display. Bachmann is relatively new to the scene and does not have that background. She is new enough and outside the ‘establishment’ that she hasn’t even gotten on the leadership track in the House. This gives me pause in supporting her. I’d rather see so done who has held a similar role in either the public or private sector.

Maybe they fire you up so much because they are not candidates, you want what you cant have... the grass always looks greener.... Bachmann has stepped up to the plate and is doing a good job there, give her credit for that.

Who is this silent majority you are thinking of that all feel like you? (Palin or Perry) How many states will they be able to win in 2012 that Bachmann wouldnt?

Let me take a stab at it.

She appears to say the right things. She behaves as though she believes them...smaller, limited gov’t, free markets, etc.

But then we learn she is in favor of ethanol & other crop subsidies (!), and learn that her husband’s practice also accepts taxpayer subsidies. Subsidies like this are anathema to the whole TP movement and yet she’s on record as taking advantage of them and for keeping them. Not quite on par with Obama’s crony capitalism, but a little unsettling, nevertheless.

I almost fell off my chair Tuesday night when Brit Hume was on Freedom Watch said there were very few policy differences between Romney and Bachmann. ugh

Finally, her judgment deserves to be in question when she hired the tired hack Rollins, who attacked the candidate whose voters she most needs to covet...Palin’s. A person that cannot or will not control their staff is out of control themselves. Ask any executive.

Your caution comes quite naturally. Because she is giving off the faint scent of being something that everyone hates...an opportunist.

I’ve gone from being someone who donated to her campaign to someone who is wary of her.

Maybe, subconsciously, you think it’s a job for a man?

...there is plenty here, for honest criticism.
i certainly disagree with the article, on several specific points.
but, she clearly states she is VERY enthusiatic about Sarah Palin.
so, your comment mystifies me.

...unless:
