FORT WORTH, Texas -- Texas could soon be in a position to turn the lights off on a federal plan to phase out certain light bulbs.
State lawmakers have passed a bill that allows Texans to skirt federal efforts to promote more efficient light bulbs, which ultimately pushes the swirled, compact fluorescent bulbs over the 100-watt incandescent bulbs many grew up with.

Soon light bulbs will be contraband.
Hmmm can imagine becoming a light bulb smuggler. Life has become ridiculous.
Amazing, isn’t it? Good ol’ George Bush II signed off on it.
Yes, I can see you walking up at at truck stop as you open up your trench coat. Inside is a vast array of lightbulbs, high-output shower heads, bottle rockets, and Sudafed.
Any truth to the rumor that the feds want to tell us what brand of toilet paper we can use?
Why, did Mr. Whipple turn up at Moochelle’s fund raiser yesterday?
Already been done on Seinfeld 13 yrs. ago. A guy with a bunch of showerheads under his trenchcoat, selling them on a street corner to get around New York City’s low-flow ordinance.
Do you have any good experience with a particular brand of lightbulb regarding performance and longevity?
If I am going to stockup - I would rather buy what will last.
If you are going to go that route then take a hard look at the industrial/hospital long life incandescent even thought they will hit your billfold a lot harder.
If the citizens of USA don’t wake up and throw this nobama bunch out, Texas is going to have to move FREE-FROM the sinking ship.
I love America, but I love Freedom more and Freedom is what I am willing to fight for and die for.
If only a three-gallons-per-flush toilet would somehow fit in there.
The people in the other 49 states will still be interested in getting them. I’d draw up a business plan if I were you.
Do you know about the ban that goes into effect Jan 2012? No 100W incandescants will be sold after that date with the rest of the wattages to follow until all incandescants are outlawed Jan 2014.
I’ve been stockpiling incandescants for years because of this bill.
It probably doesn’t matter since they are all made in China any more. I buy the GE (I know, I know) ones that have the same spectrum as natural light. Dang bad memory getting me, I usually know the name of them. Starts with an R....
I haven’t heard the brand name rumor, but the mayor of Omaha proposed to the Obama administration that they do what he is doing and institute a per roll tax on toilet paper. We pay an extra 10 cents per roll thanks to Mayor Suttle.
“Texas has yet to learn submission to any oppression, come from what source it may.’ - Sam Houston
I thought they were on display in the back of a van.
It’s crazy. I can see it now - a guy dressed in a trenchcoat whispering “hey, wanna buy some incandescants” as he flings open his trenchcoat.
Now, the state needs to go back to work on the TSA groping law and the new EPA regulations aimed at closing down the refineries.
