ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, an outspoken Republican with close ties to the tea party, announced Monday that she is running for president, a candidacy that could further shake up a volatile fight for the GOP nomination.
The first female contender to enter the 2012 race, Bachmann announced her bid during a Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire.

Bachmann can’t win after not getting rid of Rollins.Gov. Palin only one that can beat Obama.
WTF???
Sounds suspiciously like the BS they said about Palin. You in for the marxists?
House Members Who Became President or Presidential Candidates*
Only Henry Clay (1824), James A. Garfield (1880), and John Anderson (1980) ran for President in the general election as sitting House Members. In Garfields case, the only successful instance of a sitting Representative becoming President, he had already been elected by the Ohio legislature to the U.S. Senate. Anderson ran as an independent challenger, and Clays candidacy predated the rise of the modern two-party system.
I have already sent Michelle a little money to get this thing going. The last thing we need is another RINO. How can she not be qualified? In case you haven’t noticed, the bar has been lowered. Everyone is more qualified than zer0. If someone like Romney were to get the nomination/win, how would we know a republican was in the Whitehouse? Would he undo any of the damage done by this administration? Would he dump Obamacare? Hardly
Two weeks ago I would have been excited, but after Ed Rollins I’m not.
Yep, that’s two of us, if she wins, I’ll vote for her over obama, but no money, time or effort after she didn’t fire Rollins the next day. I still can’t imagine picking a fight with someone who is NOT in the race, and if she doesn’t enter, you want her supporters....
World Class STUPID.
Now we’re talking!
Hardly. I donated to Bachman before the last election. But I’ve been disappointed at the way that, after running for congress with promises of conservative action, she’s basically dropped out and spent all her time fundraising and preparing to run for POTUS.
She was one of the leaders of the new conservative movement in congress, and ought to be in there helping the freshmen do the job they were all elected for, but instead she has been neglected her job ever since she was re-elected.
i respectfully agree with all of you.
but ari-freedom especially makes the good point,
that Rollins was already on record with that article,
and several more, many months before he was hired.
simply hiring him in the first place,
isn’t the action of a friend, or even loyal competitor.
worse, i could understand if Rollins was a winning wizard.
but he’s like 1 for 5 ?
with judgment like that, i don’t trust her now,
to pick the people we need to fix our great country.
I am excited for the first time since I thought Trump was going to run. But I don’t think this lioness will wimp out on us like he did. She is on top of it all, presidential, and 100% more likely to beat Obama than any of the others running so far IMHO.
Has anyone heard when the next Republican debate is scheduled?
Do you honestly think Palin would take a backseat to someone with less experience? .... DJ MacWoW
Considering that 65% of all voters have stated they will "definitely NOT vote for Sarah Palin", that is like asking if Charlie Sheen would be willing to accept second billing in a Presidential ticket.
The reality of the situation is that Michele Bachman, unknown to 67% of the voters, at least only has Unfavorables at 20%. Sarah Palin, known to 79% of the voters has Unfavorables at 57%.
However, as WestSylvanian noted, Michele Bachman "is a backbencher with less experience than Obama had when he ran for president. The American public isnt going to make the same mistake twice and vote for such a person."
The same goes for Sarah Palin who has two years of executive experience as the Governor of a State with almost half the population of San Diego, CA. In terms of citizens per year, Mayor Barry Sanders of San Diego has five times more executive experience that Sarah Palin.
You have absolutely no idea who Jerry Sanders is and wonder why such an individual would even be mentioned in a discussion of Presidential candidates?
If so, that is exactly my point. Obama, Bachman and Palin are all Affirmative Action candidates. If the three of them were white males, like Jerry Sanders is, we would not even be talking about them.
The reality of the situation is that Michele Bachman has a snowball's chance in Hell of winning the general Presidential election in 2012 and Sarah Palin has absolutely NO chance of winning the general Presidential election in 2012.
Of all the debaters in tonight's Republican debate, most American voters would choose "None of the Above".
Bill Clinton did not announce his first winning candidacy until October of the year before the election.
The GOP has until around October of 2011 to attract a strong conservative candidate whose poll numbers are not lower than whale scat at the bottom of the ocean and who can actually defeat Obama and not merely make members of her adoring Fan Club (8% of all voters) act like 13 year old girls at a Justin Bieber concert.
If not, we will have either RINO Romney or Marxist Obama as the President for the next four years.
Bachmann has never even run a TOWN let ALONE anything close to a country. She does NOT have the experience AND she is a backstabber. NOT presidential material.
PAILIN WITH MINI-PALIN
It is time for the conservatives to get a real canidate and to read some of these comments. Look at the left they put the worm into the White House. A non experienced wanna be. He never ran anything but his mouth.
Good thing I am not a Republican! It will be interesting to see who the Goofy Old Party anoints this cycle.
Mazel tov Ms. Bachmann. Maybe with this, Sarah Palin will hang back as the general purpose conservative cheerleader — and probable Veep.
If somebody has a lot of enemies, it pays to find out why.
Bachmann is not running for POTUS, she is running to become Vice-President. (So are Gingrich and Santorum.)
But if Palin or Pawlenty win the nomination, she is excluded.
Man, where do I start? That is so far off track, your dogs aren't even in the right county, much less, anywhere near the trail of the truth.
Sarah Palin isn't going to be VP to a back bencher who's never even run a town (let alone, a whole state), and who has stabbed her in the back.
And if you think that Michele can suck up a single molecule of Sarah's air, you haven't been paying attention. Why on earth would the most outstanding Republican candidate who's come along in a generation, and who can command global attention at a moment's notice, walk two steps behind a congresswoman who doesn't have a tenth of her qualifications and achievements?
Unlike a lot of, ahem, others, they seem to believe in putting their faith into practice. I don’t expect to see any Euodia/Syntyche type cat fights between those two.
