"What Republicans need is a candidate who is unabashedly conservative across the board, a savvy campaigner who does not make stupid mistakes, someone with no skeletons anywhere, a proven government executive who would hit the ground running as president, and a candidate who could very quickly and almost bloodlessly win the Republican nomination.
Governor Perry is perfect for this mission. Consider the five criteria I listed. Is Perry conservative? He is a social and a fiscal conservative with a very long track record of walking the walk as well as talking the talk. In the fiscal area, think of Mitch Daniels or Chris Christie on steroids. Unlike members of Congress, who have stray votes which could offend conservatives, Rick Perry has no blemishes at all.
Moreover, Perry is aggressively conservative. On June 7, Perry called for a special legislative session to abolish sanctuary cities. On June 9, Perry asks fellow governors to join with him for a national day of prayer. His book, Fed Up! Our Fight to Save America from Washington takes on squarely the leftist mania for implementing national policies in areas properly the province of state governments. "

Perry added sanctuary cities to the session because he knew it would not pass in the regular session which required a 2/3 majority. That rule is suspended in the special session and just requires a simple majority.
Exactly right. We're going to need someone with the heart and courage of the Founders, to dismantle the Socialist state that Barry built.
Perry hasn't shown me that he's got that sort of heart or courage. Not even close.
That's a heart-stopping thought. I've had it too.
Too true. Perry has also managed to survive the last two challenges he's faced because he ran against even weaker candidates than himself. Texans haven't had a true conservative to support for governor in some years (if ever).
So Perry's beige, and Romney's tan. What's the difference?
The article say that Perry “grew up a Democrat,
Just an obersvation that I believe would be true but can’t prove. If it wasn’t for the ‘grew up democrats’ in Texas that have changed their party affiliation I honestly don’t think this would be a red state yet. In other words most of the ‘grew up democrats’ that have changed over the past are more conservative than the existing democrats. In other words they were republicans before the republican party was a factor in Texas. Now that doesn’t make them all a part of the far right wing of the party.
Perry hasn't caused Texas' economic success. He simply hasn't done anything to put a damper on it (by design or default, I don't know). The state was already on a serious growth track when he first became Governor.
"Strong backing of the 10th Amendment"? A couple of strongly worded letters don't amount to strong backing when you're a Governor, in my book. Why hasn't he used the power granted to him by the Texas constitution to stop the invasion at our southern border? That would be asserting our 10th Amendment rights.
And if you can look the other way after Gardasil and the TTC, you're the type that compromises with your principles too easily to remain free.
I've held my nose and voted for Perry twice. If he somehow winds up being the last man standing in the presidential race, I'll be forced to do so again.
That said, I hope like hell that Sarah gets into it, so that we have a real conservative, with real courage, to vote FOR.
“On a side note, while Perry is not the perfect candidate, I sometimes wonder when true freepers are going to stop pointing out why each Republican is wrong for the job and get busy finding out who is right for the job. Because at some point we are going to have to start pointing out what the hell is WRONG with ODUMBO. Just saying...
Hell yes I would vote for Perry, Rommney, Palin, even Ron Paul before I would continue to bitch about what is wrong with every candidate. The 100% owned liberal media will do its job for the beer summit king...do we really have to help them!”
All excellent points — too bad many even here don’t seem to understand that the real enemy of conservatives and the country is Obama. As you say, they are doing the Dems jobs for them, focusing on every potential ( some-times even made-up) ‘weakness’ of all Republican candidates, instead of Obama.
Way back, a few articles revealed that one of the key Dem strategies are the “divide and conquer” one, and many conservatives are obligingly executing this Dem strategy, which will ensure an Obama win and another 4 years of Obama and the Dems controlling the country. Considering the damage they have already done in 2 years, just imagine if they stay in power for another 6...
You make a very good point, but if I find out you worked for Al Gore's campaign in 1988 post-Reagan Enlightenment then I will be suspicious.
:-)
See post #7.
Nope, Palin is the one. Perry may be two, time will tell.
He is a democrat converted to republican. Not that this would necessarily make him a moderate or liberal, but this in my opinion would:
>Trans-Texas Corridor.
>Confiscation of thousands of acres of private farm and ranch land via eminent domain laws.
>Forced gardasil injections to school aged girls.
>Mexican trucker program.
>Lethargic attention to border security.
>Allowing sanctuary cities for years while in office.
>Attending the super secret Bilderburg meeting and not being transparent in regards to the agenda.
>In state tuitions for kids of illegals.
I have to say, he is pro-2nd amendment, pro-life, and is a professing Christian.
In a race against Obozo, I'd vote for Perry. Is he the most conservative candidate? Nope.
That is a disqualifier for public office. If he supports that, he does not get the concept of Freedom.
That's pretty much the bottom line on Perry for most conservatives who know his record.
Wow Palin supporters are real classy. Last time I checked the American Thinker was a conservative website/blog. Since when do we call our own assholes?
Well, I'll say this much in defense of Perry. He listens to people, unlike zero. 66% against obozocare and still got it passed.
It’s getting sort of difficult to be patient...lol....but she’s going to run. She has to. Thanks for your opinion on your guv. He’s not *the one*.
:)
I'm sorry, but this article is an outright lie. A roorback -- a witting lie told for political effect.
Act any Texan who cares about "open borders", homosexual couples adopting kids sub rosa from Texas Child Protective Services-run orphanages, Rick Perry slipping around on his wife with effete men, about toll roads, land seizures using eminent domain for the benefit of foreign, NWO-connected investment companies (making us pay European plutocrats to ride our own Interstates), mandatory testing of teenaged girls for STD's and inoculation with drugs, and any other number of "conservative" issues.
Rick Perry's on the wrong side of all of them. He is a card-carrying RiNO and social liberal.
Woop! There it is!
And put quote marks around "conservative"!
