The White House is pressing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to publicly adopt President Obama’s view that Israel’s pre-1967 border should be the basis for future peace talks.
The Obama White House appealed to Jewish leaders on Friday that the request of Israel was part of an effort to head off Palestinian plans to declare an independent state at the United Nations in September.
The request of Mr. Netanyahu was made Monday to the prime minister’s top peace negotiator, Yitzhak Molcho at a meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the National Security Council, according to an Israeli diplomat based in Jerusalem.
The diplomatic effort shows Mr. Obama is working to restart stalled negotiations on the creation of a Palestinian state, as many close U.S. counterterrorism allies in the region fall to the recent wave of revolutionary unrest called the Arab Spring.
Israeli press reports on Monday stated that Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, met with Mr. Molcho this week. Mr. Erekat publicly denied those reports on Tuesday to the Palestine News and Information Agency.
Steven Simon, the new White House National Security Council senior director for the Middle East and North Africa, told representatives of the Jewish Community Friday during a conference call that the White House was looking to get both the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli government to adopt Mr. Obama’s “principles as a basis for negotiation,” according to a recording of the call played for the Washington Times.
Mr. Obama’s position is “the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps.”
Mr. Simon, who served as the Clinton White House’s top counter-terrorism official, said the United States had about a month to head off the Palestinian plan to declare a state during the annual United Nations General Assembly...

Change U.S. borders
Using President Obama’s own suggestion to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, about adjusting Israel’s borders to pre-1967, I think that the president could do the U.S. a great service by re-adjusting ours.
I suggest that Obama return America to its Aug. 20, 1959, borders so that Hawaii is no longer a state and Obama will no longer be a citizen.
It might just work!

Obama’s method of operations always is to have one of his pals act like the crazy person with the extreme positions, so that he can come in as “the only thing standing between you and the pitchforks.”
This act has gotten old and tiresome, and nobody believes him anymore when he does this. I’m sure he pushed the Palestinian Authority to start the drive toward the statehood vote at the UN for just this purpose.

November 1967 would make sense, especially if Egypt doesn’t keep the agreement by which Israel withdrew from some 95% of the territory that it occupied then
Actually, I know a few Muslims and not one of them has ever made a hateful remark towards Jews. They do sometimes opine forth with mistaken impressions regarding the Israeli wars, each of which Israel has won against massive odds. Oddly, they’ve actually remarked an admiration for a people who can fight so well against such overwhelming odds surrounding them. That doesn’t mean they don’t harbor a desire for Israel to be wiped off the Middle East, but then these are not Middle Eastern Muslims, they’re from the Phillipines.
