Newt is through.
Romney has way to much baggage with Romneycare and man-made global warming.
Ten years as governor of a real state is significant.
Perry and Cain both have business experience and can explain the economy.
Perry has an immigration problem, but his stand was necessary in Texas.
Palin made a bunch of endorsements I don't agree with. Perry's choices of issues to lead on are of great concern to me.
Our nation is literally dying, Charles. Playing some kind of gotcha game with endorsement letters is exactly the kind of childish bullcrap that has helped to put us in this situation.
He's not my first, second or third choice but Perry looks have a pretty economic track record:

The economies of Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston metropolitan areas grew faster than the rest of the country in April, accounting together for 82,000 net new jobs. The numbers suggest that Texas will continue to lead the rest of the country when May employment numbers come out for metro areas. In April, the Texas gains amounted to about 45 percent of the (revised) national gain of 177,000 jobs.
Meanwhile, announced today, the whole net employment gain nationally for May was only 38,000. The stock market, banks and economists are getting worried.
Texas has been hit by the national downturn, but has bounced back better. Most of its economic indicators are positive. Oil and gas have much to do with it, of course, but so do state fiscal policies under Governor Rick Perry that contain spending and regulation and hold down taxes.
Post #32 makes logical sense; but don’t forget the people elected Obama, a freshman senator with a hidden past?
Sitting governors always put someone with foreign policy chops (even Al Gore was talked up for having foreign policy expertise).
Bush/Cheney, Clinton/Gore, Reagan/Bush--the pattern is too strong.
It's a matter of a few steps of logic. Perry supported the effort to force girls at age 14 to take the human papilloma virus vaccine. He reversed his decision when public uproar convinced him that a majority of the state was against it. But he demonstrated that he is perfectly happy as a matter of state policy to implement big government solutions to health issues. Ergo, Perrycare.
I am really concerned that WA state Republicans are supporting Romney in ways that undermine conservative Republicans, including our own Republican candidate for governor.
The GOP invited Romney to speak at our state convention last year. There’s so much going on in this state that raises concerns, none of it good.

That was an endorsement for Governor of Texas, not for POTUS.
So far, she has not endorsed him officially for POTUS.

Like I said before...Texas is full of reasonable, strong, clear-thinking individuals who keep this state humming and going in the right direction. And who continually have to slap Perry up side the head and steering him in that direction.
I will of course throw a vote for Perry if he is the last candidate standing. But I would prefer to have a really strong conservative candidate who will push and LEAD to slash and burn Washington DC, instead of joining establishment republicans who helped get us here.

Who IN FACT have to keep slapping Perry up side the head and steer him in the right direction! Because he has made some really SERIOUS wrong turns...
AGAIN, let’s play WHO DID IT? Sarah Palin has a clear record of LEADING those things SHE accomplished! Even when her own party was corrupt and leading in the WRONG DIRECTION!
Now, AGAIN! I want someone in Washington DC who has a clear record of LEADING and who doesn’t have to be slapped up side the head to do it!
We don’t have time to wait around for Perry to be slapped up side the head to get the lead out of his butt and solve the very disturbing problems we have in Washington DC!
I guess I should have used the /s. I know that personally, whenever I want advise on which conservative to vote for, I ask a Californian, because they do so well at electing them. /s
And that is precisly my point. Here's what I've been seeing around here lately:
"Santorum endorsed Romney and Specter. He's a RINO! We need Sarah, only Sarah!!"
"DeMint endorsed Romney. He's a RINO! We need Sarah, only Sarah!!"
"Bachmann stood next to Romney at a McCain-Palin rally once. She's a RINO! We need Sarah, only Sarah!!"
"Pawlenty said something good about Romney once. He's a RINO! We need Sarah, only Sarah!!"
It gets wearisome. But it only seems to go in one direction. Why don't these same people say:
"Palin endorsed Perry. Palin endorsed McCain. Heck, she was McCain's *running mate*! She's a RINO!! We need . . . we need . . . well, there's nobody left!"
So I'm looking at a range of possible candidates: Pawlenty, Perry, Palin, and more. All the candidates, including Palin, have their flaws. I want one that is generally conservative and that can win.
Do all of the anti-Perry people know that Sarah Palin is a big supporter of his?
I've become interested in a potential Perry run in the past month as the speculation has intensified.
While I think Perry has impressive positive arguments he can make, it's the negatives that need to be addressed.
From what I can gather, there seems to be three major bones of contention. The Guardasil E.O., the Trans Texas Corridor, and illegal immigration.
Perry will have to be able to deflect all three with compelling explanations, because it's obvious his detracters will unload on him. The passion displayed by a number of freepers, and notably a segment of the Texas contingent, shows that to be the case.
I believe Perry would trounce Obama on the immigration issue, although he would take heat in the primary.
He could probably deflect TTC as an internal state matter than voters outside of Texas won't focus on, although he would have to be ready to state his position on imminent domain and unregulated Mexican truckers in the primary.
The Guardasil E.O. is his biggest liability, as I see it. He'd better be ready for that one. When you start messing with children's health and parental rights you better have your ducks in a row.
The opt-out feature and the 18 month delay in implementation are probably politically to his favor.
Putting aside the charges that he and his staff were joined at the hip with Merck, it could be argued that his intentions were good, but he didn't let his head catch up with his heart. Nevertheless, what he did was boneheaded, unilateral, and dangerous. Hopefully he learned from the experience and has the character to admit it.
I've no doubt left alot out, considering Perry's long history, but the three points I mention seem to be the highest flying red flags.
All said and done, and given the existing Republican field, I'm not prepared to dismiss Perry at this point. My main goal is the defeat of Obama in 2012, and I'll support the candidate who has the best chance of doing that.

Sure, some folks whine about endorsements. It's hardly the only (or even a primary) argument against these candidates.

You're not going to get very far playing the 'who endorsed who' gotcha game. That's for sure. Look at records. Look a little deeper than whatever animosity you have towards supporters of a particular candidate. There's simply too much at stake to do otherwise.
Bolton doesn’t thrill me, but Cain-Bolton would cover everything. :)
