On the day a poll showed Barack Obama owning the failing economic recovery, a CBS News Washington Bureau reporter questioned Michelle Obama's judgment in wearing a $7,000 gown at tonight's state dinner for German Chancellor Angela Merkel, noting that other guests "dressed more modestly."
Writing on Twitter, CBS News reporter Christine Delargy said:
Gowns by Michelle designer Naeem Khan retail avg of $7,000. Good, bad image for Obama in poor economy? Most din guests dressed more modestly 30 minutes ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®
In a previous Tweet, Delargy noted her fashion expertise:
Michelle in Naeem Khan tonight. Wore same designer @ 1st state din for Indian PM. @markknoller has record of everything else. I have fashion about 1 hour ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®
They are just now noticing that Michelle intends to live as high on the hog as she can, so long as it on the public bill. He and she remind me of the Marcoses. But her thing seems to be dresses, not shoes.
It’s a black tie event and she’s the president’s wife & host. I think she looks a lot better than usual & I have no problem with it.
Actually, that is exactly my thought.
I do think the dress is very nice on her - it’s a flattering, lovely dress - but she’s dressed inappropriately next to the other woman.
Big butt, sagging boobs, rides again.
They’re both wearing gowns. Merkel is a lousy dresser.
Lemme guess.... A $100 sack dress from the Fashion Bug and a $6,000, 10” tall WWE Wrestling Belt...
And the convenient poll showing Romney (the most liberal republican of the bunch) topping Obama.
Bare shoulders is a way to minimize wide shoulders, but bare armpits should never never be displayed during the daylight hours during any business occasion, such as greeting foreign dignitaries
I agree. This is one of the better looking dresses I have seen Moochelle wear. Most of her stuff looks like it just came off the loom in Ghana.
Among those who got to dine around the same table as the Obamas and their guests of honor, Chancellor Merkel and Dr. Sauer: James Taylor; Proctor & Gamble CEO Bob McDonald; Kodak CEO Antonio Perez; Hollywood agent Bryan Lourd and his longtime partner Bruce Bozzi, an exec with the Palm steakhouse chain; and architect Helmut Jahn.
Actually a lot of people care and a lot of people notice and it "sends the wrong message".
Personally I don't care but it is nice to see the MSM going after the wookie after they way they savaged Nancy Reagan.
0 does not like the Presidency but the obamas LOVE the trappings of the office and the profits from Bill Ayers books.
Dude -- the dress I wore this evening is on I bought in the '80's. The slacks I was wearing last week I bought before Jimmy Carter was elected.
Not all women are clothes horses......
Yes, she is hoping to attract an NFL owner for a linebacker position since the regulars won’t be playing for a while.
Important Girl Talk: Alice Waters to Cook for Michelle Obama During Bay Area Visit
Discriminating gastronomes and well-heeled political power-shakers will witness Alice Waters of Chez Panisse fame preparing garlic toast and other treats for Michelle Obama when the First Lady visits the Bay Area for a fundraising breakfast on June 14th, the Bay Citizen writes.
The invitation to the $1,000-per-head fundraising breakfast is billed “locally-produced breakfast by Alice Waters and Friends.” Waters, it turns out, is a huge fan of Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign, in which the fit lady promotes healthy eating as well as regular exercise as panacea to the nation’s overweight and underworked schoolchildren (and their similarly out of shape parents).
The invitations to the event promise “garlic toast from Acme Bread’s very first Edible Schoolyard,” meaning two Berkeley bonanzas for the price of one morning meal with the president’s wife.

Well, at least it doesn't get stuck on speedbumps.
Masterfully done.
Amazing how something so expensive could be so badly designed. The bodice makes her already proportionately small top look even narrower, while the simple skirt makes her large hips look broader. If she’s going to spend that much money, she ought to try to find something that at least looks less like a cheap slip.
