AUSTIN, Texas — Gov. Rick Perry added immigration legislation to the special session's agenda on Tuesday, including a measure that would remove local law enforcement agencies' ability to make immigration violations a lower priority.

Other items he added include how local police use the federal Secure Communities program to check people's immigration status when they are arrested, and checking an applicant's immigration status before issuing driver's licenses and personal identification certificates, according to a statement from Perry.

'..can’t we give Perry a chance'

We'd better start giving someone a chance and get solidly behind him!

Tearing apart our prospective candidates is only helping out the libs.

If you don't like a Republican candidate, then STFU.

The Libs don't need our help in that department.

“We’d better start giving someone a chance and get solidly behind him!”

I totally agree there. I hear so many people say, “The more, the merrier!” in the primaries. That is only splitting the vote and causing more and more division.

If we could unite behind someone like Perry and have a united front, we would have a better chance at unseating Obama.

Gov. Perry has the ability to unite the Tea Party, the evangelical wing and, I believe, has the ability to attract the support of the establishment GOP.

As much as we can’t stand the establishment GOP, I read an article recently that made the point that said that having the Tea Party and the evangelical wing is great, but we need to get the establishment GOP on board with us and have a united coalition.

I think it kind of resembles how Benjamin Netanyahu became the Prime Minister of Israel. His very conservative party (Likud) was able to form a coalition with other conservative parties and even some not-as-conservative parties to win a majority over Tzipi Livni’s Kadima Party, even though Kadima originally won the most seats.

I know we don’t operate in a parliamentary system, but my point is that we need to get a coalition together with other Republicans, even though we won’t agree on every single issue and that is fine.

The statement was pretty much accurate. You can find the executive order on the governors web site.

Paulbot? LOL! I’m not one. When I was a kid I worked on one of Paul’s early campaigns. He and I drove all over the place together. He was saying the same stuff back then as he does now. I was impressed back then but not today. He is too old and inefective to be president.

I'm glad to see he's given us one out of three, but as I said in another thread, I'm withholding judgement until I see what he does with the TSA bill and the campus carry bill. If he backs up all of his strong talk with action, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he's sincere in his beliefs and that he has the courage to lead. But if he takes the politically expedient route and lets those two crucial issues die, I'm going to have a hard time seeing him as much more than a political opportunist. Sanctuary cities is an important bill, but it's definitely the least-controversial of those three conservative agenda items.
