AUSTIN, Texas — Gov. Rick Perry added immigration legislation to the special session's agenda on Tuesday, including a measure that would remove local law enforcement agencies' ability to make immigration violations a lower priority.

Other items he added include how local police use the federal Secure Communities program to check people's immigration status when they are arrested, and checking an applicant's immigration status before issuing driver's licenses and personal identification certificates, according to a statement from Perry.

What do you base your statement that Perry is not intelligent? Look at his record. That takes some smarts.

Finally. If advancing Perry’s ambitions is what is needed to get this and some other things done at last, I won’t complain.

If he approves the TSA bill, he’ll knock this special session out of the park.

I never knew Obama was running for Governor of Texas.

Just because Obama is bad doesn't make Rick Perry a Conservative.

He hasn't done jack crap about illegal immigration for years.

Talk is cheap that is why I called him a cartoon. Nobody cares if Perry spouts off. He doesn't do jack.

“Years overdue. Where has he been for years and years? Don’t be fooled. As we Texans that know Texas politics know he is a RINO. Rick Perry has been and always be the douche you have to vote for instead of whatever turd sandwich he happens to running against. Perry will only run if that is the case. He is a lazy opportunist.”

What you said. Also, not surprisingly, notably missing: requiring Texas employers to use E-Verify before hiring. But that would offend his globocompany buddies that luvs them some border-hoppin’ cheap labor.

“Just because Obama is bad doesn’t make Rick Perry a Conservative.”

You can frame that and put it on every “draft Perry” post. I’m sick of hearing about RINO Rick. This is the guy who endorsed Dukakis, Gore and Giuliani—but he’s a committed conservative, of course. /sarc

Been around him, know lobbyists that have dealt with him a lot and one ex-gov and former president who gave people nicknames called Perry “The Dumbass”.

Perry, former Democrat and buddy of Al Gore. Did nothing to stop the illegals, tried to force drugs in to Texas young women via executive order and attempted the biggest land grab in history viathe TTC. A RINO who is easily bought. Owned by a buddy home builder named Perry.

Perry won’t run unless he is the lesser douche running against a turd sandwich. So, going up against Obama is right up his alley unless there is a stronger candidate.

If he approves the TSA bill, he’ll knock this special session out of the park.

I think he'll add it to the special session calender and here's why....

"If the anti enhanced pat down bill is passed in the Texas Legislature and is signed into law by Governor Rick Perry, the question arises; will the US federal government carry out its threat of cancelling air travel to and from Texas?

On many levels it seems like a mad threat to make. Such a cancellation would not only be devastating to the economy of Texas, which has been pretty healthy compared to the rest of the country, but also to the United States as a whole. The cutoff of commerce and travel that such a ban would cause would be like taking the economy, already ailing and trembling at the edge of the abyss, and taking a baseball bat to it.

Any reelection chances President Obama would entertain would be doomed. Not only would the economy go back into recession, which presidents tend to get blames for anyway, but Obama will have been seen to have deliberately caused it. It is question, therefore, of how stubborn his government is over this matter."

.

The clowns we have to choose from thus far suck.
I am not a huge fan of Perry, but
compared to Romney, Newt, and the rest of JOKES running for President he’s a rock star.
Texas has been voted #1 business climate for the last seven years.
Texas has been getting all of California’s jobs.
Perry must be doing something right.
We need a good business guy right now.
Perry has proved it.

. Sarah Palin threw her endorsement to Rick Perry for governor- and so did Nugent.
Sarah just restated the other day she likes Perry

. Rush said that Perry is his dream candidate.
http://gretawire.blogs.foxnews.com/rush-limbaugh-on-the-record-3/

. Pro-life, Pro-guns, pro-spending cuts, pro-business

. He’s an outside-the-Beltway candidate

. He is not a Ivy League grad

. He was an Air Force captain who flew a C-130

. Speaks Spainish.
(Odumbo says everybody should speak a foreign language, but he CAN’T)

. Fighting with Obama on many fronts
Google Perry/Obama and you will see he’s been fighting him and his government for the past two years.

. Since Perry has been Governor of Texas, Texas has added more than 850,000 jobs, more than all other states combined. Texas has added over 180,000 jobs since August of 2009.

. There is no such thing as ‘Perrycare’

. Signed into law sonogram and explanation by physician before abortion

. Signed into law, photo ID ident to vote

. Perry did not apply for federal “Race to the Top” education funds because he said it would force national standards upon Texas.

. He has vetoed a record 248 bills, including dozens after the 2001 session, angering many lawmakers.

. He said last year that President Barack Obama was “hell-bent” on turning America into a socialist country.

. Won governorship of state with lots of latinos

. According to this web site Texas is #1 this year and last year for business friendly.
http://chiefexecutive.net/best-worst-states-for-business
Obama would not want not run against a governor that has the BEST business climate in the U.S. when everything else is in a depression.

. He used to be a Democrat. So? So did Reagan.

. The Bush’s don’t like him

. Perry has a reputation for not sweating

• He refused to raise taxes when Texas faced a record $10 billion budget shortfall in 2003. Instead, he was the first Texas governor since World War II to sign a budget that lowered state spending (and has now done it twice). As governor, Perry has used his line item veto to cut over $3 billion in proposed spending.

• In 2005, Perry signed a historic $15.7 billion property tax cut for homeowners and businesses that also included new taxpayer protections against appraisal increases. In 2009, Gov. Perry secured a tax cut for approximately 40,000 small businesses in Texas and protected the Rainy Day Fund for future challenges.

• He led the battle to pass the country’s most sweeping lawsuit reforms, closing the door on junk lawsuits that had been making trial lawyers rich while driving countless doctors either out of the state or the profession all together. Since Texas voters approved these reforms, malpractice claims and premiums have fallen and access to healthcare is increasing across the state as doctors have applied in droves to practice in Texas.

. He has never lost an election, including an elementary school contest for “king” of the Paint Creek School Carnival. He secured that win by handing out pennies for votes.

.Perry is pro-life and opposes government funding for elective abortions. In 2005, Perry, a social conservative, signed a bill that limited late-term abortions and required girls under the age of 18 who procure abortions to notify their parents. Perry signed the bill in the gymnasium of Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Worth, an evangelical Christian school.

. Perry is also known for his socially conservative views on homosexuality, and he opposes same sex marriage. He condemned the United States Supreme Court decision in Lawrence vs. Texas, which struck down a Texas sodomy law. He called the law “appropriate”.

. Christian religious beliefs
In what was described as a “God and country” sermon at the Cornerstone church in San Antonio, attended by Perry and other mostly Republican candidates, the Rev. John Hagee stated, “If you live your life and don’t confess your sins to God Almighty through the authority of Christ and His blood, I’m going to say this very plainly, you’re going straight to hell with a nonstop ticket.” Perry was asked if he agreed with those comments and said, “It is my faith, and I’m a believer of that.”[39] Perry went on to say that there was nothing in the sermon that he took exception with. Humorist and entertainer Kinky Friedman, the Jewish independent candidate for governor in the 2006 election, said, “He doesn’t think very differently from the Taliban, does he?” Carole Keeton Strayhorn disagreed with Perry’s comments, and Democrat Chris Bell said that one who is in public office should “respect people of all faiths and denominations”. Conservatives then responded, arguing that Perry had a right to his religious beliefs, and that he was not disrespecting Americans of other religious convictions.[40] While visiting Israel in August 2009, Perry gave an interview to the Jerusalem Post in which he affirmed his support for Israel from his religious background, “I’m a big believer that this country was given to the people of Israel a long time ago, by God, and that’s ordained.”

. Environmental issues
Perry does not believe there is valid scientific proof of anthropogenic global warming. He has said several times that there is no scientific consensus on the issue.[69] In a September 7, 2007, speech to California Republicans, Perry said, “Virtually every day another scientist leaves the global warming bandwagon. ... But you won’t read about that in the press because they have already invested in one side of the story.”

. Inauguration concert controversy
Perry invited his friend, rock musician Ted Nugent, to perform at a black-tie gala hours after Perry’s second inauguration ceremony on January 16, 2007. Nugent appeared onstage during the inaugural ball wearing a cutoff T-shirt emblazoned with the Confederate flag and shouting derogatory remarks about non-English speakers, according to press reports.[79] The NAACP condemned Nugent’s flying of the Confederate flag, but he denied intentionally making any racially offensive comments and stated that the flag is a symbol of southern heritage

Misc:
. He played quarterback on the six-man football team for the Paint Creek Pirates. He also played basketball and ran track.

. He is an Eagle Scout and wrote a book about the Boy Scouts, ‘On My Honor’.
Rick Perry uses the Boy Scouts to draw a battle line in what he considers a “culture war,” defending them against the American Civil Liberties Union and what he sees as a moral struggle for the country’s future.
The book also traces a 30-year history of litigation involving the Scouts — most of which they won — which Perry considers an attack on traditional values and faith in God.

Perry targets the ACLU as the primary force behind a leftist push to accept homosexuality and challenge Scouting’s duty to God.
http://www.rickperry.org/media/perrys-new-book-supports-boy-scouts-attacks-aclu

. He’s a runner and triathlete.

. He is an outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing.

. He plays the drums. At a January 2005 inaugural party in Washington, he played with ZZ Top in front of 2,000 people

. Perry has Romney’s looks without the other baggage.
Raised on a ranch. Has hair. 6’ tall- presidential (especially after Obama)

Americans WILL get it:
Better looking
Better record
Rick Perry for President.

.

Has not protected the border. Guardasil, TTC, etc.

At the end of the day he is a RINO who has been re- elected because his opponent sucked worse.

The Guardasil mandate is a complaint I keep seeing pop up on these Perry threads.

Is this an accurate statement from back then?....

“Perry’s order directs the Health and Human Services Commission to adopt rules for the requirement, which is effective in September 2008.

Parents would be allowed to opt their daughters out for medical, philosophical, religious or moral reasons, as they can do now for other required vaccines.”

All you need to know about the Guardasil deal can be found here:

Perry is a RINO. He also signed in to law an illegal income tax on businesses. Something the Texas Constitution does not allow. He has had numerous special sessions because it gives his weak position a way to set the agenda. Keep in mind that the Texas gov. Position is a week one. The Lt. gov, another RINO, Dewhurst actually runs the state.

AUSTIN, TX — Gov. Rick Perry added immigration legislation to the special session's agenda on Tuesday, including a measure that would remove local law enforcement agencies’ ability to not prioritize immigration violation.

In a Tuesday afternoon statement, Perry also added measures that would require state authorities to check a person's immigration status before issuing a driver's license and also checking a person's immigration status when they are arrested.

“Texas owes it to the brave law enforcement officials, who put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and communities, to give them the discretion they need to adequately do their jobs,” Perry said. “Abolishing sanctuary cities in Texas, using the federal Secure Communities program and ensuring that only individuals who are here legally can obtain a valid Texas driver's license sends a clear message that Texas will not turn a blind eye to those breaking our laws.”

http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/state&id=8175967

WHAT have any of the rest of the Republican candidates done?
Come on. Let's hear it.
Nothing- and they won't.

Perry knows he was wrong to push the vaccine and the hwy.
If this is the worst he's done, I can live with it.

The fact is; we need a candidate who can WIN against the Marxist/Muslim usurper.
As much as I love our beautiful ladies, Palin and Bachmann,
they cannot win against this monster, Obama. They just can't.

Perry is in many ways the man the liberals feared George W. Bush was, but Perry is a better stump speaker and has served in office at more levels than his predecessor.
He is not a perfect candidate, but such a candidate does not exist and never has. But Perry is one of the few potential candidates with both the skill and record to build a credible national effort quickly, and turn the national political landscape around in his favor. If he were to run, Rick Perry would be a very strong candidate.

I am surprised and puzzled that fellow Texans would spew their venom and try to destroy their own governor, when it's clear that he is one of the few with a chance to beat the monster currently in office.
Every time Perry is mentioned, this forum turns into something resembling Democratic Undergound.
Frankly, due to the viscous attacks on Perry, I'm beginning to wonder if his detractors aren't some of the resident Libs who are afraid Perry might actually pose a threat to Obama.

“If he were to run, Rick Perry would be a very strong candidate.”

I totally agree with you. Well said! I really don’t understand all the Perry bashing myself.

Yes, he’s made mistakes. So has everyone else. Yes, the TTC and the vaccine might not have been great moves, but, as you said, if those things are the worst things he’s done, I can live with that, also.

Yes, RINOs exist, but I think the RINO witch hunt has gotten out of hand and there are FAR worse “Republicans” that are worthy of the designation, “RINO,” than Gov. Perry.

People are like, “He was a Democrat!” Your point? People can have a change of heart! Ronald Reagan was a very liberal Democrat as Governor of California and he ended up being one of the greatest conservative presidents America has ever had.

Again, Gov. Perry is not perfect, but last time I checked, there was only one perfect man that ever walked this earth.

Perry has a very strong record and things like his so-called “secessionist” comments have been blown way out of context.

I mean, really, I know we all loathe Romney (and for good reason!), but can’t we give Perry a chance?
