Yep, few if any Republicans seem to survive their sexcapades in the House. Newt and his expected successor from Louisiana are two more examples (Livingston?).

Someone once explained a simple truth about the American political scene to me:

Republicans see politics as a hobby. Democrats see it as a career.

This is why Republicans are more likely to resign in the face of a scandal like this, and are more likely to pressure fellow Republicans to resign. Do some research on Anthony Weiner's Tony Dick's biographical information, and it will become crystal clear. He majored in political science in college, and had aspirations to be a television weather reporter. He ended up migrating to politics when that didn't work out.

For 6+ years (1985-91) he worked on the staff of Chuck Schumer, and since then he's spent the last 20 years in politics, first as a New York City council member, then as a Congressman.

In other words, this guy would probably be unemployable if there was no such thing as a "government official."
