In fact the initial 3 digits indicate the zip coded area that begins with those same digits. I don’t know what they do now that such areas can have originated more than a million SSNs since the beginning of Social Security in some cases. Adding more digits to the SSN will be an upheaval like unto the Y2K panic.
HUH?
Social Security, and therefore the numbers, started in the 1930’s. The U.S.Post Office (Zone Improvement Plan),”ZIP” code started in 1965.
B$, what about SSN# that were generated before zip codes were even thought of. Zip codes came into use in 1963.
That's incorrect.
“In fact the initial 3 digits indicate the zip coded area that begins with those same digits.”
NO way!
If that was true mine would start with 900 but it starts with the correct #550.
Not in my case.....
Not in my wife's case....
Not in my kids' cases (who got their SS# in a different state from myself).
