I would support a system where one candidate had to get 50% + 1 votes. If no candidate was able to, then there would be a runoff between the top two.

What REALLY sucks is our insane method of selecting our candidate. I would prefer a single day when ALL the candidates were voted on by ALL the states.

Thompson is senile. Didn't you watch him slowly roll to a stop in 2008? He's done. This is a bad idea and he has no business adding his feeble two cents' worth. Fuhgeddaboudit.

Fred is and old senile has-been who is looking for attention any way he can get it. Only a fool would do away with the EC. Popular vote? Really? That is the vehicle that undermined the 10 Amendment and effectively destroyed state sovereignty—when the PV was used to elect senators rather than election by the state legislatures.

But, hey, who needs the Constitution anyway? Right Fred? I mean you are so much more enlightened than those who drafted that august document!

If we do not cut the necks of these elite bastards, then we shall soon have an oligarchy rather than a representative republic. Mob rule by “democracy”—and is that not the term with which these change agents constantly use when referring to our system of government? They never use the word “constitutional republic.” Always their axiom is “democracy.” These individuals are wolves in sheep’s clothing, bar none. They pretend themselves “conservatives”—but nothing could be further from the truth.

Oh yes, they throw the conservative base a bone here and there—anti-abortion, pro-marriage, pro “free-market”—anything to keep our focus off their treasonous machinations. Like true masters of the illusionist art they keep us distracted from what their real object is. And we are mostly too stupid to notice. Too caught up in the little distractions they throw at us, so not to see the war they wage against our freedom.

Fred Thompson, Newt Gingrich, Willard Romney, George HW Bush, George W Bush, etc, et al. All of them dupes of the banking cartels—and all of them co-conspirators in the NWO of the elite oligarchs.

We can see how well the 17th amendment worked which changed the control of the Senators from state Legislatures to a
“popular vote”..........essentially a 2nd House of Reps at this stage.

Our Founding Fathers did everything for a reason after much thought and debate........

Leave it alone. In fact get the 17th back to orginal set up is what the focus should be.

I’m probably a pretty small minority here, but if it is done correctly, I would be in favor of popular vote determination, though it should ONLY be done by Constitutional Amendment.

What was the purpose of the Electoral College in the first place? To choose wise individuals who would then work out the best candidate, thereby avoiding being slaves to the passion of the moment. But with electors now obligated to follow the dictates of the popular vote in their own states, the whole point of the system is erased. Now it only serves to confuse and make things more complicated than they need to be while encouraging cynicism.

Dare I say something positive about French elections and the way they are held? Everyone votes, the votes are counted and 15 minutes after the polls close, we know the winner. If nobody gets 50.01%, there is an immediate runoff between the top two just 2 weeks later, which ensures that the winner gets a majority of the citizens’ votes. In our elections, we have a system in which it has become rare for a candidate to get an actual majority, inviting false flag parties, mischief-makers and lawyers (please excuse the redundancy) to distort the result. Look for big-time false-flag Tea Party candidates in the 2012 elections, just to scatter and dilute the conservative vote. It is going to happen.

God, I don't know ..... they're twisting his arm somehow? The man is a constitutional scholar -- he knows better than this! He knows the practical effects, too. It'd make the blue hellhole cities absolute kingmakers.

Maybe he couldn't stand George W. Bush? Al Gore went to some Tennessee pals and they got something on Fred?

Indeed, doesn’t he know that if we had a popular vote system presidents would craft their policy’s to appeal to urbanized ignoring the needs and interest of the smaller more rural states?

Does he not also realize that in the United States States run elections and still control the registration process and thus the potential for fraud?

That going to a popular vote would as such reward states that craft laws that favor high turn out over legitimate elections...

This is a corruption disaster waiting to happen a disaster that will serve to further upend our election system in all 50 states rewarding the more corrupt while diminishing the more honest.
