SOCIAL ISSUES FADE AS REPUBLICANS COURT CONSERVATIVES ZOT!
Reuters ^ | 6/3/11 | Steve Holland

Christian conservatives looking to put a Republican in the White House heard a lot about the economy on Friday in a sign that their social issues may take a back seat in 2012.

Many political speakers at the Faith and Freedom Coalition, including Republican White House hopefuls, emphasized jobs, debt and deficits...

In contrast to some previous presidential campaigns, social issues like gay marriage and abortion have not been prominent topics for Republicans hopefuls seeking to replace President Barack Obama in next year's election.

The weakness of the economy has triggered a debate within the Republican Party about whether conservatives should call a "truce" on social questions.

The idea is that Republicans would have a better chance at victory in 2012 if they rally around economic issues....

Yes, but I don’t think the government can stop people from hurting themselves. The government can only prevent people from harming others. The government exists to protect life, liberty, and private property.

Protecting those things demands dealing with drug users. I’d prefer execution, but it is what it is.

You sir are on the crack pipe. Where in the world have you seen anyone push fiscal recklessness at FR? Even if you are a single issue guy on the fiscal stuff, there is a bounty of info and debate on every bit of financial minutia from all over the world here. I also don't see a lot of love for Bush 43 here other than the War on Terror policies. You really need to sober up and look around a bit before you fly off the handle in what I see as a childish manor.

I've got a better idea. Why don't you take the back door in 2012 and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Not everybody is on everyday so I don’t think that’s it. More than likely posting history was checked.

The government isn’t defending liberty when it tries to control what people put into their own bodies. What’s next? Is our nanny state government going to ban doughnuts and ice cream?

“Let the damn fiscal conservatives who like gay marriage and abortion compromise.”

The funny thing is I am still trying to figure out an example of a fiscal conservative, who actually cuts spending/kills bureaucratic agencies, that likes gay marriage and is pro-abortion.

It seems these "liebertarians"/moderates are all for funding their “pet projects”, hmmm. The biggest hypocrites are those calling for fiscal sanity while being “liberal” on social issues.

Defending us from drug users, imo, is about as important as defending us from islamics.

Yep, it might mean you can’t use illegal drugs. Sorry. Your line of reason of ‘do anything to your body’ would include abortion, btw.

I’ve never used drugs, and I never will. But I don’t believe in using the force of government to take away liberty from the American people. I’m opposed to abortion, because abortion actually kills another human being. Drug use simply affects the people using them. I’m not sure why we need big government to take away personal liberty from people.

I don’t believe your ‘don’t use’ but support usage thing at all, lets get that out of the way. And, if someone aborts in their house, how does that affect you more or less than drug use?

You said using drugs doesn’t affect anyone else, so.. It’s ok and should be legal. But I’ve shown it always affects others. We’ll see how abortion doesn’t affect anyone outside of the house at all, even less than drug use. So how can you support one but not the other?

You can believe what you want. I’ve never even smoked a cigaratte before. I just believe in freedom and liberty. Like I said, I oppose abortion because it affects the baby. It actually kills an innocent human being. Drug use simply affects the person using drugs. I believe that the federal government exists to protect human life. If the government isn’t going to protect the lives of the unborn, then it should be abolished all together. The government would have no other useful function if it didn’t protect innocent human life.

Again, a person using the drugs is not ‘innocent’. They affect outsiders moreso than the abortion case. A woman that aborts their baby does not possibly affect you. (it does, but the same as I’m saying below)

Now, your drug use does. It affects you and the others that don’t use.

The drug use affects people far more in general than abortion even can. You claimed only things inside a house are sacred, well.. You’re wrong.

Your libertarian drug acceptance will lead to an outcome that does not support your long term future on FR.

Just saying. Noob.
