Barbour Warns Social Conservatives: Purity is the Enemy of Victory [Surrenders Life & Liberty]

Gov. Haley Barbour issued a warning to social conservatives in choosing their Republican nominee for 2012: “Purity is the enemy of victory.”

“Remember purity in politics, purity is the enemy of victory,” Barbour said. “We can’t start out with the idea out as the Faith & Freedom Coalition that our candidate’s got to agree with me on every single thing. We cannot expect our candidate to be pure. Winning is about unity. Winning is about us sticking together to achieve the main thing.”

“Conservatives, religious people, small government people, we are not going to have purity. We’re not going to have a perfect candidate,” Barbour said. “There’s only been one perfect person that ever walked on this earth. And there ain’t gonna be another one in this election.”

haley is MY governor and he is a corporatist hack... the difference in haley and huckster is that haley does not play bass... and he steals peoples homes to give to businesses and he vetoed a PRO PROPERTY RIGHTS, ANTI EMINENT DOMAIN bill that passed both chambers with almost 90% approval and he has turned loose murderers here in Mississippi and he is a worthless party hack. He did ok after Katrina but the peple of Mississippi deserve major kudos on the handling of that disaster. You want haley??? You can have him.

“Winning is about unity. Winning is about us sticking together to achieve the main thing.”

Haley, how about you liberals show some unity for a change and unite and vote for the conservative. Loyalty is a two way street libs. something you obviously do not understand.

I am not holding my breath after the way you all behaved in the 2010 elections where conservatives were involved.

We’ve been “compromising” for decades. How about we make THEM compromise with us for a while.

I’m going to get Pat McCrory, who, while not perfect by any means, is better than a kick in the pants.

No, I am correct. ANY of the current Republicans....even Gary Johnson....would be a better President than Hussein.

Barbour thus confirms he belongs to the Nelson Rockefeller wing of the GOP and is a member in good standing of the RNC (aka Big Tent Rino Central)...

NOTE: THIS IS LIBTARD MEDIA- DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THEY SAY

The headline does not even match the contents

Now Barbour will have to go on TV for 10 days saying “No, that’s not what I meant”

This is how the lamestream media corrupts our message and wastes our time trying to correct it

HEY STUPIDS IN THE GOP - STOP TALKING TO THE DAM LIBTARD MEDIA~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ronald Reagan won 2 elections in a landslide and in the process proved that a forthright conservative can win. At all times he kept all 3 legs of the conservative stool tucked firmly under himself: social, fiscal and defense.

No one would accuse Reagan of being a Rino, yet he won walking away because he set the agenda, he changed the dynamics, he drew the people to his vision and the rules of the game did not apply to him. This is the challenge for all conservatives. Internecine warfare among various Republican philosophies subside into the background when the leader actually leads.

A winning candidate simply will not give these factions the space or the spare time to form a circular firing squad. He dominates by delivering the right message the right way.

Christ was perfect.

Is Christ running for office?

Haley's tone here sounds suspect.

Haley's not saying anything that isn't OBVIOUS. Rush has described it as "the perfect as the enemy of the good."

I've already seen it here among comments saying, for example, "If Palin isn't the nominee I'm staying home." Others want to apply an unconstitutional religious test to Bachmann over her Lutheran Synod, or the Catholics or the Mormons running.

Speaking of Sarah Palin, in the recent Greta bus interview she was asked specifically whether Santorum's social conservatism was a winning message. Palin dodged the question as posed and said a fiscal conservative message is a winning message.

Does that make her a RINO or does she get a pass? I didn't see it come up on the thread for that interview so I guess she gets a pass. Most other candidates would not be so fortunate.

It's important to coalesce behind the most conservative leading candidate available rather than to divide the vote by quibbling over shades of conservative credentials. Some aren't satisfied with a person who governed or voted conservatively but want a social activist instead.

I have no pick for that spot right now but I assume the best electable "Romney alternative" has not announced yet. If the field is set, I see trouble ahead for conservatives.

BTW, my definition of RINO ordinarily requires that a candidate have run for office before as a Democrat ~

Your definition of RINO is peculiarly your own. Everyone else considers it to mean exactly what you think it doesn't mean:

RINOism has nothing whatsoever to do with ideology ~ it has to do with partisan political affiliations!

You live in your own mind too much. No one else anywhere thinks RINO means someone who used to run as a Dem and won. It has to do with holding liberal positions on issues. Sheesh.

Sorry jack, we were using RINO way back when I was studying government 101 in 1962.

Your memory doesn't run back that far.

The texts we were using, including one of them by V.O.Key described the process and provided the name.

It's not peculiarly my own, it is the definition and some of you people are IGNANT beyond belief. Didn't you ever study things in school, or look at history, or care?

And forget about the homosexuals. They are a one issue group and will never vote against that one issue. Let the Democrats have those votes.

By your logic we should forget about Israel because Jewish voters are routinely 80% for Democrats.

This statement reflects your ignorance. Exit polling has shown gains with homosexual voters in the prior decade. They can be moved on a strong fiscal message as reflected in a new high, around one-third, going for GOP candidates in 2010.

No voter should be conceded to the Democrats: not the poor, the blue collar worker, young voters, seniors, women, homosexuals, blacks, Jews, hispanics... not one.

BTW, people who hold so-called "Liberal positions on issues" are best described as Liberals.

Your shallow attempt to protect Rick Perry from criticism WON'T WORK. Your boy isn't going to get a shot at the Presidency.

Thank you Governor Barbour!

Even the great RR wasn’t perfect. No one is. I’m going to pick the most conservative primary candidate I can but in the general election I will vote AGAINST Obama. I’ll have to be dead to sit this one out, it’s way, way too important not to vote for whomever is running against him.

Well, you’re an army of one with your RINO definition.

And I loathe Rick Perry. Abhor, loathe, etc. I cannot envision voting for him.
