>Wow. Someone got to him.

He wrote and directed Spartan with Val Kilmer that may have sparked his interest in conservatism. It was based on the exploits of the founder of DELTA FORCE, that Mamet befriended and made co-creator of THE UNIT on CBS.

The true designation for SFOD-D (Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta) is The "Combat Applications Group" or CAG. Just as SEAL TM 6 morphed into what is known today as DEVGRU so Delta morphed into the CAG. Eric Haney was not the "founder" of Delta. That was COL Charles "Chargin' Charlie" Beckwith and he did so after an instructive tour in Vietnam with the famed Special Air Service of Gt. Britain. Eric Haney was the original Sergeant Major for Delta. The senior enlisted man in the detachment. He is almost universally reviled for his book Inside Delta Force and especially for his work on THE UNIT. Even COL Beckwith never revealed stuff that Haney blabbed all over the networks. Haney was officially Dropped From the Rolls (DFR'd) and shunned. You know what I think happened to Mamet? I think he got a close and intense dose of testosterone being associated with former operators and they added a nice dollop of weapons training and other high speed techniques that is just another day at the office for the D-Boys. Charged up on pure 100% American MALE heroism, it was an easy hop to the political viewpoint.
