Psalm 121 (King James Version)

Psalm 121
1.I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

2. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

3. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

8. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

No. A bible verse didn't save anyone. It never has and it never will. That is actually called white witchcraft. It is the LORD who saves. Always has been, always will be. It is just simply the Lord. Nothing we do or say or write down anywhere saves us.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them

I would not say the Bible verse saved them. God spared them, and left his Bible verse to remind them who did it.

So, the ones who died were all unbelievers?

God will keep you alive in this world for as long as He feels you are needed. I wouldn't say a particular Bible verse saved these people, but rather the Will of God that they be spared. Maybe it was for the purposes of relaying this story. Who knows?

The one thing I don't like about stories like this is that, as another poster mentioned, it could be inferred that everyone else who died was not a believer in God and that He was exacting divine retribution among these persons. Surely this is not the case, perhaps there were some very devout believers in God who were killed in the storms.

Jesus teaches us that things like wars and natural disasters are simply signs of us living in a fallen world and proof of His eventual (imminent, but not immediate) return. He told use that Earth would not be a peaceful place where nothing bad ever happens until He does return and makes it as such.
