boot in safe mode and run it. an no macs arent any better. There is a massive malware attack impacting them right now which works the same way you were attacked.
I had malwarebytes installed but I haven’t run it for a couple months.

Install and run RKILL before using Malwarebytes.
Many Trojans act before and during a Malwarebytes run unless you freeze them with something like RKILL.
Use your 20 minutes periods to BACK UP EVERYTHING YOU CAN because you may need to reformat.

Not true, although there is no such thing as a “perfectly safe” operating system - since the user must be able to install software. The latest MacDefender attack requires the user to give permission before the install.
