All four homes in raid tied to Guerena family
Arizona Daily Star ^ | 6/28/2011 | Fernanda Echavarri

Records released by the Pima County Sheriff's Department this week show that the four houses served with search warrants the morning of May 5 - when Jose Guerena was shot and killed by a SWAT team - are less than four miles apart and are all connected to the Guerena family.

And while initial reports were that doctors told the Guerena family that Jose had been shot 60 times, the Pima County medical examiner's preliminary report says he was shot 22 times. In its sole briefing on the incident, the Sheriff's Department said SWAT team members fired 71 rounds.

Aside from releasing more than 500 pages of documents about the incident, the department has remained mum since the May 10 briefing.

The raid netted drugs, large amounts of cash, bulletproof vests, about 30 cellphones and a stolen vehicle, records show, but no arrests have been made.

I think you should be clear in your posts that you are speculating rather than stating facts. Especially when at least one of your facts, the arrest of Jose Guerena, was wrong.

If Jose was doing what you say he was doing, then he was engaged in criminal activity. You don't know that he was.

I asked for post 371 to be deleted. That must not be the right JOSE Guerena.

What was the source for that arrest picture and what law enforcement agency was involved?

Family of Tucson man killed by SWAT hires high profile attorney

Seems to be the right JOSE, doesn't it??????????

The guy named Storie is the lawyer for the SWAT team members

Actually, STORIE is a lawyer for the POLICE UNION.

Not to dispute your statement

I have no problem with anyone questioning a statement I make here on FR.

I don't 'know' everything, and a challenge from someone is one way I can find out if I am wrong or right.

Thank you for your responses.

I think you should be clear in your posts that you are speculating rather than stating facts.

I try to do that. Sometimes I fail.

Especially when at least one of your facts, the arrest of Jose Guerena, was wrong.

I found the source, and an now confused. It indicates that he was arrested. He's wearing a jail uniform. If that is him. If not, then the source is WRONG.

I did read that supposedly the police had arrested him, but he wasn't convicted of anything, and ALLEGEDLY blew the whistle on a 'higher up' in his 'organization'.

If Jose was doing what you say he was doing, then he was engaged in criminal activity. You don't know that he was.

You are correct. I do not know.

Maybe other members of his family were involved in criminal activity, and he was not.

I just can't see a person who works 12 hour shifts in a copper mine, having the time or energy to conduct a large drug trafficking syndicate.

I can see how a person like that would take offense to the lack of police help, and decide to do something about the criminals in their neighborhood, especially the ones who KILLED some of his FAMILY MEMBERS and their CHILDREN. That is a matter of record.

If JOSE was conducting these HOME RAIDS, why would he RAID and KILL members of his own family??

Yes, it is certainly labeled as such at the source. Since it was captioned as an undated mugshot released by PCSD, we should be able to find out the reason for the arrest. But it is news to me.

I found out how/where I made my mistake about this:

“Jose’s COMPLAINTS to the PD are even on record. “

I got it mixed up with Jared Loughner’s complaints to Sheriff Dupnick.

My apologies to the board.

Ask yourself why the Judge has had the search warrant 'Sealed' in this case. The LE/PR people (Storie, the lawyer for the police UNION) say that it is to protect the innocent.

However, the warrant wasn't SEALED UNTIL the controversy over the shooting came up.

I wonder why?

Seems to me when the COVERUPS come on orders from the top, that is also the SOURCE of the CORRUPTION.

For the record, Jose Guerena’s sister-in-law’s sister and brother-in-law were killed in the home invasion in March 2010. A two-year-old was also shot but not killed. A ten-year-old was not harmed and called 911. I did not read anything in the news reports about drugs or robbery regarding that home invasion. The neighborhood in which that happened consists of nice, custom homes. It’s a more rural area. The closest grocery store is 7 to 10 miles away. (could look it up but won’t.) The population is rather large to have no grocery stores.

While writing this, it is concerning to me that there must be a lot of unreported, or unpublicized crime in the area. If the Guerena’s were ripping off drug dealers, then you have drug crimes compounded by robberies. Because criminals are being ripped off, they aren’t reporting what is happening. Throw in that there are illegal aliens living in the area, and they are not likely to report crimes against them for fear of being deported. There was an exodus of sorts when HB1070 went into effect, but there are a lot of people who have stuck around in hopes that the president would grant amnesty or whatever. Add in that it’s more expensive to live here, and there are no jobs. What are these invisible people to do for revenue? (this is mostly speculation that probably means nothing.) The sheriff’s department needs to wrap up their investigation and reveal all of the crimes allegedly committed by the Guerenas.

No problem. And thanks.

Then why would they INVADE the homes of their OWN FAMILY and KILL THEM? Does that make any sense to you????

No. A lot of things don't make sense, here. That's why I think any reasonable, open minded person, even one like you or I who generally support Law Enforcement officers & realize the majority are honest and doing a good job, have to say "this doesn't pass the smell test".

Why is it that the family of GUERENA that was killed in a home invasion, did not involve drugs?

Now I'm going to pester you for documentation of that. :-)

I saw it somewhere else too - a blog, I think - don't remember where. But if true, it's also VERY, shall we say, "curious." It would also seem to contradict the police' assertion about the very same invasion (see 1st italicized item above.)

Pinal Co. (source of mugshot) is the Phoenix area, more or less immediately north of Tuscon, right?

Yes.

I was just perusing the Pima County Sheriff’s Department website and their crime location page. It has a homicide listed for May 3 at the 7100 block of Redwater Dr. That’s the same block as the Guerena household. That’s a little odd.

I don’t know how their crime locations site works—if they post based on crime reports filled out by deputies in the field or what. I haven’t found any news stories about any such homicide.

Noted - I have not looked for that, but it seemed odd that I hadn’t seen any such stories in the sidebars of the articles about the Guerena shooting. It also seems as though (except in reference to the Guerena shooting) the murder of the Guerenas’ relatives “went off the radar” very quickly. Granted that the Tuscon area is much larger (population-wise) than mine is, and I’m sure there are a lot more murders, but still, it seems so much more “worthy of attention”(?) than the usual “two guys in a bar get in a fight and one gets shot”... Maybe it’s due to that lack of local news organizations resources that you mentioned.
