All four homes in raid tied to Guerena family
Arizona Daily Star ^ | 6/28/2011 | Fernanda Echavarri

Posted on 05/28/2011 1:49:58 AM PDT by petitfour

Records released by the Pima County Sheriff's Department this week show that the four houses served with search warrants the morning of May 5 - when Jose Guerena was shot and killed by a SWAT team - are less than four miles apart and are all connected to the Guerena family.

And while initial reports were that doctors told the Guerena family that Jose had been shot 60 times, the Pima County medical examiner's preliminary report says he was shot 22 times. In its sole briefing on the incident, the Sheriff's Department said SWAT team members fired 71 rounds.

Aside from releasing more than 500 pages of documents about the incident, the department has remained mum since the May 10 briefing.

The raid netted drugs, large amounts of cash, bulletproof vests, about 30 cellphones and a stolen vehicle, records show, but no arrests have been made.

Hubby keeps coming back to the serving of the warrant was botched from the beginning. It’s not the guilt or innocence of Guerena.

"Conservatives trust cops more than anyone, but when cops prove themselves unworthy of that trust, the backlash is that much harder. "

Well said. It's not unlike GOP Congress critters who are held to a higher standard by their constituents than the 'Rats representatives of the People.

Your “explanation” makes even less sense than your original comment.

And, no, I don’t need to google Lon Horuchi.

With all this said, I do accept the possibility that Jose Guerena may have been involved in some bad stuff, perhaps some very bad stuff. The most damning thing I’ve seen so far is a comment on TV by his wife that he’d go out with his brother and tell her she didn’t need to know what they were up to.

The MOST LIKELY TRUTH (and there is evidence for it) is that what he and his brother were apparently doing was the job the SWAT/POLICE wouldn't do.

They were raiding DRUG DEALERS. Trying to clean up the neighborhood. Jose had been making calls to the police about local drug houses and been ignored, investigated, and put on 'the list'. (what's the list? It's one every PD has with people on it who have pissed off the cops, and are to be harrassed when encountered). Jose's COMPLAINTS to the PD are even on record.

I guess DUPNICK didn't like the embarrassment (or, he takes bribe money to protect certain drug houses), so he and the SWAT TEAM decided to pay JOSE and family a visit, and let them know they didn't like having Jose take the law into his own hands.

Unfortunately, the first SWAT guy in tripped and discharged his weapon, whereupon the other SWAT members just automatically started firing.

Consider this as well.

THE PD/SWAT states that in ONE of the 4 or 5 houses they found $94,000 and some ‘pot’ in the oven.

One must assume that it was a very small amount of pot, or the PD would have gleefully announced the exact WEIGHT, and STREET VALUE of it for the newspapers. They always do.

Now, if we ignore the marijuana (pick 5 houses in any neighborhood in America, and I bet you find one with some pot), then where did they get $94,000?

If they were such big drug dealers themselves, there would be some serious drugs in volume in at least one of those houses.

You don’t make $94,000 off selling pot.

This tends to support the evidence that they were ripping off drug dealers, taking their MONEY, but not the drugs.

If you steal DRUGS from your local dealer, he will come after you. If you steal MONEY from your local dealer, the COPS that are being bribed to protect him will come after you, and their money.

P.P.S. (sorry for dragging this out)

And IF you have $94,000 in cash laying around in your house, and are supposedly a drug user/abuser, you don’t work manual labor on 12 hour shifts in a mine.

No but people like you are scum.

Drugs were legal in America until the early 1900s and the nation prospered regardless;but the statists wanted more control so instituted income tax with with-holding,weakened states by moving to the "popular" election of Senators, got the U.S. involved in a European war we had no business joining in 1917,and also made alcohol illegal thus setting up conditions for the creation of powerful gangs ,bribery on a massive scale and murderous fights over territory.

The people that take away America's freedom are scum. Here's hoping the SWAT boys playing "Army" break down your door at 3 am ,terrorize your family, and shoot your dog;then maybe, just maybe ,you will gain a glimmer of understanding!

Not to dispute your statement - after reading about the Johnston story, almost anything seems possible - can you document that (complaints to PD, etc.) beyond hearsay? It’d be crucial information.

If that is what was going on, the Guerena bros. were crazy fools to:

A) Take on the drug sellers themselves without literally a squad of backup. (Other ex-military to watch the house, when they are gone, etc.)

B) Not flush any weed, etc., the minute they got home.

C) So endanger their families (even if “A” is in place.)

IMO

“Conservatives trust cops more than anyone, but when cops prove themselves unworthy of that trust, the backlash is that much harder. “

There are only a few examples where there was big abuse of power. This certainly isn’t Ruby Ridge or Waco.

They had a valid warrant from a Judge. Things went wrong when he presented and pointed a gun at a SWAT team. It is obvious what is going to happen in a situation like that.

BTW, most people who clamor and point at police officers at every turn and in almost every shooting are not conservatives. They’ve become fringe anti-government nutjobs, not limited government conservatives. Worse yet are the extreme antis hiding out as Libertarians, who have more in common with Liberals.

Right.

IIRC*, several days ago a Sheriff's Dept. spokesman (named "Storie", I believe?) stated that if the officers had been allowed entrance peacefully, likely no one would have even been arrested. To me, that says right there that your husband is correct.

*Please correct me if I am recalling that erroniously. I think I saw it in an online article from one of the Tuscon TV stations or possibly a newspaper.

Are you on drugs? Only a few examples? I've already posted this once to you but here it is again....Officer Lied to Obtain Warrant in Fatal Shooting and this link with over 7 million results....Cops Lied.

This debunks your "only a few" BS. And no, I'm not a fringe anti-government nutjob but you certainly are a POS bootlicker!

Let see you can call me a bootlicker, but I can’t tell you to go bake cookies. BTW, you sound like a liberal. Which was it that struck a nerve? Anti Government nutjob or Anarchist feigning to be a Libertarian?

You sound bitter, perhaps more active amore?

Hubby keeps coming back to the serving of the warrant was botched from the beginning. It’s not the guilt or innocence of Guerena.

Upon reflection, I would further add that the issue is not whether Jose Guerena reacted properly. Sleep-fogged, startled, wife screaming, TV and laundry on, possibly partially stunned by a stun grenade, fearing for his family: anything could happen, and a lot of the anythings are not good.

Where this went wrong is the minute it became policy to serve search warrants with hair-trigger SWAT teams forcibly entering homes, when apparently there's not even enough evidence for an arrest warrant for (in this case) Guerena. Since when is preventing possible destruction of evidence, particularly in such a weak case, worth risking so many lives? Especially the Mom and the 4 year-old child -- I just can't get past that -- it bloody puts tears in my eyes even as I type it. What kind of government does such things? (Rhetorical question)

I absolutely don't mean that as a diatribe at YOU, though I do think we have a few posters here who wouldn't understand unless they were the Mom in the house at the time... I guess I'm just "venting".

Maybe I'll be back "here" later - I need to get away from this and get something done - it's hot & humid(!) here - maybe push-mowing for a couple hours instead of using the riding mower would be a good idea.

I have to get away from this for a while. In the meantime:

What I just read is your war, but an insults match is useless. Take him down on the issue at hand. He’s set himself up, and you have overwhelming facts & cool logic on your side, if you choose to use them. Heck, he doesn’t even understand the overall issue of this thread.
