I think BBQ should have a thin spicy sauce if you must have it.
It should be bright and spicy. Never sweet sticky and cloying.
I made a new version of my Yucatan poke chops this week that were outstanding.
Lightly salt the chops then Rub the chops with Bufalo brand Clasica sauce, zest Lime skin over it.
Cook, it rest it, pour the juices back over it and dice a Serrano over it.
Holy Wow!

People always fight over BBQ recipes.
I like to use a dry rub of spices then smoke the meat.
I do like to have a thin spicy vinegar based sauce for dipping occasionally but I would never douse the BBQ with it to serve.
Some folks like the sticky sweet thick BBQ sauce and cook it right on there.
This is not good imho. First off, sugar burns easily, then...
It’s stick, gooey, covers the flavor of the smoke and ruins yer clothes

1 bottle your favorite BBQ sauce
1 can peaches
1 tbsp ground allspice
Blend and let sit overnight in fridge.
Works well as a dipping sauce too.
