Lech Walesa, Poland's Solidarity-era legend, ex-president and 1983 Nobel Peace Prize winner said Friday he would not accept an invitation to meet with fellow Nobel winner US President Barack Obama.
"It's difficult to tell journalists what you'd like to say to the president of a superpower. This time I won't tell him, I won't meet him, it doesn't suit me," Walesa told Poland's public broadcaster TVP.
Obama is due to arrive in Poland later Friday after the G8 summit in France.
Walesa was originally scheduled to meet Obama Saturday along with other key figures in Poland's post-1989 transition from communism to democracy.

I agree, that would be brilliant! It's a huge opportunity just begging to happen.
That’s because Lech earned his Medal.
Plus, he sees Obama as just another Commie to be avoided.
Sad, but true.
I would say more specifically that he is more into the American spirit than many Americans are, and exemplary at it. A Republic only works when the people within are willing to give to a larger team effort. When the solidarity declines, so do the freedoms.
Very well said. As Joe BiteMe would say, "This is a big f**king deal."
Walesa is another real man, cast from a mold similar to that of Netanyahu. God bless, Lech, and God bless Poland!
We are in a heap of trouble here.
We are mostly in a heap of trouble due to the populace, of which the politicians and parties reflect a great deal. Trust me, if individual people in this nation wanted to elect someone to tell them about the foundational morality, especially trust and goodwill, they would have done it. If they wanted to have a vision or goal about what they and their nation could do about 10 or 20 years down the road, they would do it, but the problem is that a growing segment of society is reactive, rather than prospective, or reflective.
I wonder how the Emperor feels with no clothing?
Walesa knows a slimy marxist/communist when he sees one...
Walesa knows someone who had to work, lose plenty, and do a great deal to prove himself worthy of receiving a prize, compared to someone who was just entering office as president, not having done much yet to prove himself. I am royally disappointed that someone like Greg Mortensen or the forgiving Holocaust survivor didn’t get it, but then again, the prize, and it’s committee, have pretty much become a bad joke in recent years.
Short version of the long story...
I worked with a Polish woman who had been naturalized a few years prior. She would tell us stories about the horrors of communism her family experienced under communism.
When the election came around, she was a huge Obama supporter and openly mocked the conservative mindset and those (two of us since this was at a newspaper) who had it.
I remember asking her why, knowing what she did, she would vote for the socio/communism her family fought against in Poland.
Her answer was that people like me (conservatives) were not much different that the Soviets... and Obama (and those like him) were going to spread peace and harmony across the globe.
Proof positive that liberalism is a mental disorder.
Side note: After he was elected and began his reign of error, she wouldn’t talk about her hero much. Wonder why?
Obama fooled a lot of people.
Glad Lech snubbed him, but I wish he had gone a step further and called Obama a socialist or warned about going down the path to socialism. It just would have been nice to see someone with the authority of Lech Walesa link Obama to the word “socialism”.
If you haven’t seen ping. And as much as I hate those “if Bush ever......” posts
The mind boggles at what both the Congress and the MSM would have done with this.
Very true. What really got me was that politics aside, she was borderline brilliant. Great writer/reporter (as long as politics were not involved) and could speak with knowledge on many subjects.
But she had one hell of a blind spot when it came to Obama and the Dems BS. Just refused to logically look at the issues and weigh the facts. Then once reality hit home, she refused to admit she had mad a mistake. Sad really. So much potential wasted and nothing learned.
How did she feel about Reagan?
Work with her Norm. The wheels are coming off.
She thought he was the Antichrist and couldn’t rationalize her hatred of him to save herself. He was just ‘evil’.
We got into some arguments over RR that got pretty heated. She lost them all because she could only recite the Dem party line. When presented with the truth, she just ignored it.
Too late. She left some time ago and I’m no longer there.
She would have been ‘fixable’, given enough time and actually worth putting the effort into doing it. Hope she wakes up eventually, for her own sake.
Lectured to by Netanyahu, snubbed by Walesa... The One is on a roll!
LOVE THAT PICTURE!
Da!
