Lech Walesa, Poland's Solidarity-era legend, ex-president and 1983 Nobel Peace Prize winner said Friday he would not accept an invitation to meet with fellow Nobel winner US President Barack Obama.
"It's difficult to tell journalists what you'd like to say to the president of a superpower. This time I won't tell him, I won't meet him, it doesn't suit me," Walesa told Poland's public broadcaster TVP.
Obama is due to arrive in Poland later Friday after the G8 summit in France.
Walesa was originally scheduled to meet Obama Saturday along with other key figures in Poland's post-1989 transition from communism to democracy.

Makes sense, Walesa stood up to communists while representing shipyard workers in Gdansk. He KNOWS what socialism and communism are about. He also knows that Barack O’bama (or is it Obamawicz now?) wants the US to look like 1980s Poland.

One of my earliest memories was of watching the news following the “Solidariosc” movement. My dad was a huge Reagan Republican and I guess that filtered over.
This guy saw the Warsaw pact coming down and stood his ground, fearless because he knew he was right and the communists were wrong. Contrast that to the clown in the white house whose answer is to always talk and reason it out. OK, the military spent 10 years tracking OBL and they waxed him, coincidently under Obamas watch, that doesnt make him a go getter. Leech Walensa knows a celebrity imposter.
He would have gladly spent time with Reagan. But a real wolf smells the p—— in Obama from across the ocean and knows O’s troops would be ordered to the other side of the picket line from Lech.

The CBS version is very good. President Doodlehead’s speech prior to the toast is equally as pathetic. You can clearly hear the Queen say “Set it down.” How embarrassing.......

Great picture! Mr. Walensa looks very sharp now, with his silver hair. His mustache was always a hoot - very 1970s.
The privilege of age and genuine achievement: “I won’t meet with him; it doesn’t suit me.” I love it!
Wow. He won’t pretend 0bama is just someone you can peacefully disagree with. 0bama is all about undermining freedom and our allies and it’s amazing to see how strongly Lech Walesa feels with this. I respect the man and I think it’s great he will not acknowledge someone he knows is not a friend of freedom.
Remember when the media was all over stories about criticisms and insults to Bush. They loved running with those stories. We know they’ll stay silent on this!
Lech Wałęsa has had sufficient experience with totalitarian socialists to know that he need not meet one to despise or ignore him.
Besides, it would be inappropriate, given the role of Mr. Wałęsa on the international advisory council of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.
