"China's military is urging land attacks on Somali pirate strongholds"

Duh. I'd suggest a boat free zone along the Somalia coast for 40 years of so (2 generations).

Attack the pirates bases? It took how many years for someone to figure that out?

I guess the big trick is to do it with minimum risk to hostages. Still, the sooner it is done the better to put an end to it all.

Well, now that America is in decline, it's nice that the world still has one superpower -- a nation which believes in property rights and adherence to international law; a nation with the gumption to do what is right and the willingness to act.

Who would have thought that China would be the leader of the free world so soon? But we are a third world country now and can only stand by and watch as the torch is passed.

We know exactly where they live. We don’t need any land forces to take then out and destroy their homes.

Take the Missourri out of mothballs in Hawaii and clear a path 25 miles inland with her 16 inch guns.

Stupid! Just arm the ships and let them defend themselves. Why launch a land war that will sweep in all kinds of civilians who aren’t even involved in piracy? Most Somalis do not know or care anything about what is happening at sea.

If China can pull this off I might be impressed. If not, then they are just paper tigers.

If China goes in, they won’t be handing out candy bars and calling lawyers for permission to pull the trigger. They do have substantial investments in Africa, but I think that if they do something, it will be to send a message to us.

Not that the AH’s in DC will get it....

Look China:
Any time you feel froggy....Leap.

Won’t bother me a bit and you’ll probably dispatch them more efficiently than we will.

Go to it China. The United States government views America as a bank to provide wealth to invading Third World vermin who in turn will continue to elect corrupt politicians to govern the United States.

In light of the fact that Somali piracy is actually seafaring jihad, getting the PLA to stick its fingers in that hornet’s nest might actually be good policy for the West: the jihadis would have a new enemy to deal with (and not even “people of the Book”, full fledged kafirs), and China would have something to bog down its military expansion.

For China, supporting an operation — even a small-scale operation — in the distant Horn of Africa would be a feat about as difficult as attacking the short distance across the Taiwan Straits.

The US government is presently leading US ships in armed convoys through the area. I know someone who was sailing on one of the ships. They warn the pirates and open fire. It doesn’t take much.

Good. It’s time the Chinos did something useful.

Let them do the dirty work, scorch the Somalis, and receive the “condemnation” for it.

I’m tired of the U.S being the only party to take on the ugly jobs.

This is about China intending a lot more Chinese trade shipping in the area, and the pirates will become irksome. Additionally, China seeks to establish more authority of force on the African continent where Chinese factory towns already have Chinese "security" around the factories for the workers.

The Middle Kingdom WILL project police authority where it has interests, that is the future.

The West wouldn’t do something that was actually EFFECTIVE for fear of being labeled Politically Incorect. Better just to pay ransom (tribute) and let the pirates go (with a letter of reprimand) when they’re captured. Obviously, China has no use for such foolishness.

I’d be all for this, except for the suspicion that China’s motive is a naval base in Somalia.

1. Training exercise to take Taiwan.

2. Will serve as base to secure Chinese mineral interests in Africa.

3. Will control sea lanes.

4. Will enjoy a high level of support from ticked-off people all around the world.

5. The PRC will lavish lots of anti-piracy rhetoric on all this, and will express shock if there are lulls in international thanks.
