The 82nd Illinois (made famous in the Battle of Gettysburg) was comprised primarily of Jewish soldiers and led by Gen. Edward Selig Salomon, a Jew. He had two horses shot out from under him. Jewish blood was no small part of what made Gettysburg “hallowed ground.”

Hyman G. Rickover needs no introduction.

Admiral Jeremy Michael Boorda -— only Chief of Navel Operations to have risen to the position from the enlisted ranks. (He dropped out of HS and joined the Navy at 17.)

With all this arguing back-and-forth about Jews and the military, why has no one mentioned Yehoshu`a Bin Nun, David HaMelekh, or Yehudah (Maccabee)? What about the numerous wars recorded in the Bible? What about Sefer Milchamot HaShem (the Book of the Wars of HaShem), or for that matter the rebellions of the Zealots or Bar Kokhba'? Don't they count as Jews?

I don't get this almost universal tendency to de-Judaify ancient Jews because they don't meet modern Jewish stereotypes based on the Galut.
