CAIROA popular reformist leader in Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood said he will run for president, in a move that raises the possibility that Islamist politicians could dominate the country's presidency and its parliament.
The announcement by Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, the 59-year-old head of the Arab Doctors' Union and a member of the Brotherhood's legislative Shura Council, marks a break with the group's leadership.
Dr. Aboul Fotouh's decision to run for president worried moderate Egyptian Muslims and the country's Christian minority, who have anxiously watched the recent political rise of Islamists and have been shaken by months of violent sectarian clashes. Sectarian riots on Saturday killed 15 people and wounded several hundred in an impoverished Cairo suburb.
"Christians wouldn't welcome anybody of an Islamist background" as president, said Youssuf Sidhoum, the editor-in-chief of a local Coptic newspaper called Al Watani. Christians make up about 10% of Egypt's population.

Do I even need to say it?
Obama’s foreign policy chickens come home to roost.
Oh yeah! I guess we need to send several billions over to Egypt to help the cause of democracy. /s
The liberals have told us to celebrate the “Arab spring”, but it’s far from clear what will happen in these countries.
Is Egypt going to have a Muslim fundamentalist type government, if the Muslim brotherhood takes power? This is one of many questions.
It’s quite possible that regimes will rise in these countries which will NOT help the cause of world peace. Regardless of Obama and his outreach to the Muslim world.
I am shocked, I tell ya!!! Shocked!!! s/
Unexpected.
Country after country...Obama is putting his boys in place.
“Do I even need to say it?”
No. You don’t.
Wow, you’re quick!
I swear that when I read the headline I said to myself “looks like 0bama is getting his guys in place afterall”.
Let's rephrase that.
Obama's exact plans for Egypt are coming to fruition - another hard core Muslim country - the same as his plans for Lybia. (Getting rid of the 2 most stable and helpful ME countries as to helping us fight al Queada- and those two huge countries will make a great place to reestablish he Caliphate, with Tripoli once again their headquarters.)
Within 2 years, the U.S. will have troops in Libya, facing Aegyptus, to keep them from going in against Israel.
