NORFOLK
EVEN FIGHTER PILOTS need some help carrying their luggage when they're embarking on a six-month cruise.
Lt. William Fincher, assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 15, had his mother help carry his gear to the aircraft carrier Bush on Tuesday afternoon. The Bush and its sister ships in Carrier Strike Group 2 leave today for an expected six-month deployment to the Mediterranean and Arabian seas.

USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51) was the first ship to have its namesake present at the christening, commissioning, and to ride the ship.
You’re right! Now I remember a photo of RR and Nancy standing behind a model of the USS Ronald Reagan.
God bless Ronald Reagan.
I can see GHW Bush matching that if given a chance to ride in the next year or two.
It could be named “72 Versions”
May God bless and protect our troops!
***There is no SHIP named after carter....it is a submarine...a BOAT, not a ship...****
Then I will rephrase that. There is a US Navy vessel named after Jimmy CARTER....
A ship named after an ex husband of Elizabeth Taylor and ex boyfriend of Barbara Walters. 'Tis a shame what our once proud Navy has been reduced to.
Usually between 1000 and 1200 for deployment. Yes, unusual.
Probably a new Captain or BG Commander just being a hard-a$$.
Jimmy Carter
Oh, yeah that’s it. First time a woman in command of the carrier strike group.
Good history Buc. Thanks very much. I guess the Carl Vinson was the first named for a live politician.
That was the point the liberal female author and her Leftist editor are making in this little story. Pulling off nasty little social sabotages like this is why they went to J-school, donchaknow. Us peons ain't supposed to recognized when our betters are doing it to our feeble little brains - and we're certainly never supposed to object.
Meanwhile, all the soccer moms are taking notes and running off to repeat it in excited packs.
Which ship would you not want to serve aboard?
1. USS Michael Murphy
2. USS George H W Bush
3. USS John Murtha
Why besmirch one with the foul name of the usurper-in-chief?
RDML Tyson, the Commander of Carrier Strike Group 2, is an EA6B pilot, I think. Was she the most capable 1 star available or is the Navy pushing diversity? Does Gary Roughead (CNO) speak at many Carrier Strike Group change of commands? If she is the best, awesome; if this assignment was in the name of diversity...
I met Bush, Sr. recently. He’s wheelchair bound. I was surprised.
He’s had Graves Disease for over 20 years. It may be catching up with him.
Churchill was granted honorary US citizenship, his mother was American, I don’t know about Lafayette.
Former President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan, as well as Newport News Shipbuilding Chairman and CEO Bill Fricks stand in front of the model of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76). The aircraft carrier model was presented to President Ronald Reagan in May of 1996.
