Four months after Gov. Rick Perry put out an urgent request to wrap up a bill cracking down on cities providing sanctuary to illegal immigrants, the Texas House passed it Monday night, advancing it to the state Senate, which is expected to approve it and send it to Perry's desk.
Under the bill, police officers in so-called "sanctuary cities" will be able to question detained suspects about their immigration status even if their bosses disapprove.
The term "sanctuary cities" is used to describe places where local officials refuse to enforce federal immigration laws and undocumented workers are free to seek jobs, housing or local government services without fear of deportation.
The bill doesn't go as far as Arizona's requirement that police check people's immigration status, but it prohibits cities or police departments from telling officers not to enforce immigration laws. Cities that fail to comply would relinquish state grant funds.
Many sheriffs and city police chiefs have criticized the bill, saying they are already helping officials prosecute and deport illegal immigrants but don't want more mandates from the state. Other critics said the bill could allow local police agencies to become de-facto immigration enforcement agents and let rank-and-file officers spend all the time they want enforcing immigration laws no matter what managers want.
But the GOP-led House looked past those objections and approved the measure 100-47 after Republicans moved to cut off all debate on the issue.
The vote came on the eve of Obama's first trip as president to the U.S.-Mexico border, where he planned to continue his recent push to revive legislative efforts to remake the nation's immigration laws.

First the State Senate passes Campus Carry, now the House passes a bill to screw over Santuary Cities. All things considered, its been a good day here in Texas.
Now if we could just get some rain....
The timing is perfect!
Article IV, Section 4 of the Constitution states, “The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union, a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence.”
The ass-wipe in the WH needs to do the job he is supposed to do!

Up here in the Red River Valley in almost Oklahoma (GO OU) we had about 5.5 inches in the last 10 days....and yes it’s been a great week to be a Texan....
All your Texas cities that are not considered sanctuary cities, are still crawling with illegal aliens, and you're being forced to pay for them.
They're throwing you an old dirty bone.
When Texas declares and passes laws preventing the millions of illegal aliens there from using or benefiting from tax paid services, ping me.
Now if we could just get some rain....
Add to the list of recent good things about Texas is that Governor Perry and the current one-term _resident will not meet. I see this as Perry rightfully snubbing Obama for the latter's anti-Texas stance and petulantly ignoring our wildfires. YMMV.
As you said, campus carry and the sanctuary cities bill are among the wonderful things about Texas:
Why should he? Nobody is going to hold him accountable. Impeachment is the only way and nobody has the cajones to do it.
you forgot to add:

o hunting
o and all the wild boar you can eat.
Newly arrived Texan here.
Obama retracks back to 1986 in saying illegal immigrants will go through a background check, they havent committed crimes, they pay all fines and back taxes and wait at least eight years before getting a green card.Meanwhile we have over 13.7 million right now who are out of work, we have 44.2 million Americans receiving food stamps benefits, according a new report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Would of liked to see Obama indicate this information in his quest to pass amnesty. How many would actually pay fines, Obama would grant waviers to see this does not happen. Obama should be spending his time telling the 13.7 million out of work, 44.2 million Americans receiving food stamps benefits, how he intends to help them.
Ping!
I'm an oldtimer here but moved here by choice from Pennsylvania more decades ago than I care to remember. I fled that unionista state but not before I busted a labor union with a decertification vote.
I will always regret not being born here but I had little say in that matter. But similar to others (Pennsylvania at the Alamo), who were not fortunate enough to be native sons, I opted to make Texas my home through a deliberate decision after evaluating all of the states to find the one most reliably Conservative and Christian.
If you don't mind my asking, where did you come here from? And what motivated your choice of selecting Texas?
Fine. But, with a veto-proof majority, they should be doing a whole hell of lot more.
And some of the best looking women also
There are some very strict posting rules here on FR which I intend to follow to the letter of the law! :-)
Perry is doing a good job for Texas lately. He ought to go to Obammy’s fund raiser and hold a press conference outlining all the ways Obammy is screwing Texas while he’s at it.
