Trump Falls Back to Earth
White House Dossier ^ | 05/10/11 | Keith Koffler

Posted on 05/10/2011 12:19:55 PM PDT by MissesBush

Donald Trump’s support among Republicans has collapsed in the wake of President Obama’s release of his long form birth certificate, according to a new survey by the Public Policy Polling.

PPP, which in April gave Trump sole possession of first place among Republican voters, now has him back in the pack with the support of just just eight percent, tied with Ron Paul.

According to the new poll, which was performed May 5-8, Mike Huckabee now leads among potential GOP candidates with 19 percent, narrowly ahead of Mitt Romney, who has 18 percent. Newt Gingrich is at 13 percent, Sarah Palin at 12 percent, Michele Bachmann has seven percent, and Tim Pawlenty five percent.

Trump, who had emphasized the issue of Obama’s birthplace, has seen a key support base erode as more Republicans come to believe Obama was born in Hawaii. While the number of GOP voters who think Obama was not born in the United States remains at 34 percent, the the tally is down from the 51 percent recorded in a February PPP poll. But Trump’s support has declined even among Birthers, the poll shows.

“Donald Trump had a meteoric rise to the top of the GOP Presidential field and has fallen back down just as quickly,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “Republicans voters burned out on him pretty fast, especially after the birther issue lost some of its potency with the release of President Obama’s birth certificate.”

I thought this sounded like good news until I saw it places Huckabee and Romney at the top of the heap. These 2 retreads are a disaster.

The media was praying for a Trump third party challenge. It doesn't look like that’ll happen, so they're falling back on their original ‘draft Huckabee’ plan.

Well the Donald just shut up (sort of like he woke up with horse’s head in the bed)and never once refuted the obvious fake BC, what the hell did he expect, that we really are dumb as nobama thinks?

It wasn’t the BC release that made Trump drop it was his behavior in Vegas (using the F word in every sentence).

Perhaps a new nickname for "The Donald"???

"One trick pony" Trump??

However, I don't think he's done quite yet....

My comment was about one poll running the country.

Trump served his purpose.

He got Obama to back down publicly, and he set off the birth certificate trap. He showed that Obama isn’t invulnerable, and stole Obama’s favorite shield.

He also neutralized any leverage the Birthers had over the 2012 election, freeing the GOP candidates from having to stand for a long form litmus test. They’re now free to ignore it entirely.

Plus, Trump managed to blow himself to smithereens.

I may be missing something, but I’m not seeing a downside to how any of this played out.

Huckabee - Romney that’s the ticket! A loser ticket if I ever saw one.

“It wasn't the BC release that made Trump drop it was his behavior in Vegas (using the F word in every sentence).”

That certainly was the turning point for me. Not so much the use of vulgar language as the idea that Trump did not see it as a negative for his persona. Gotta be an idiot not to realize that.

Yep. Media’s “Draft McCain” plan worked like a charm abetted by the open primaries.

My belief is that it was started to anoint Hillary...but Obama, who was testing the waters for a future serious run, walked into the perfect storm in his favor.

Media wants to draft Huckabee to ensure Obama 2012 this time around.

The GOP is truly sad.

Well, frankly ... he blinked. That second “birth certificate” was more “bogus” than the first one by MoveOn.Org. Even an amateur could tear this one apart. (I did at ThePatriotsFlag.com) ... so if he “caves” that quickly on something so ‘bogus’ ... then we should be looking elsewhere. Instead of “revelation” from the White House being his “downfall” it should have been his “proof”!

-”According to the new poll, which was performed May 5-8,...”

19% - Mike Huckabee
18% - Mitt Romney
13% - Newt Gingrich
12% - Sarah Palin
8% - Donald Trump
8% - Ron Paul
7% - Michele Bachmann
5% - Tim Pawlenty

Here is my take on this picture:

- Pawlenty is going nowhere. Most of his potential vote is tied up with Romney and Gingrich (the two ‘establishment’ types). As long as Romney stays in, Paws is ‘out’.

- Huckster is going nowhere. Especially since he’s shutting the blinds in SC. Most of his votes will be going to PALIN (once she declares).

- This 2012 race will come down to “TWO” and that’s it! The TWO will be ROMNEY and PALIN, with the ‘ESTABLISHMENT’ strongly supporting ROMNEY. This will be a replay of 2010 at the “Presidential” level.

Don’t worry, after Sarah announces she’ll easily shoot to the top of the heap.

Palin ‘12!!!

Trump forced the Marxist/Muslim to bring forth a birth certificate and to go after Ben Laden.
Recent Trump statement:
‘Come on! They know where Ben Laden is.
How can you lose a 6’ 4” Arab on dialysis?’

No Republican whimp has had the guts to go after Obama.

Pretty much this. Giving a public speech dropping F bombs and calling the Chinese mother****ers was pretty pathetic. It's one thing to talk that way in private now and again, but to have this sort of potty mouth during a public speech? Traditional, conservative voters are not going to support that sort of thing in the primaries.
