When a U.S. military helicopter was destroyed in the backyard of Osama bin Laden's compound, it left not only a pile of smoldering wreckage but tantalizing evidence of a secret stealth chopper.
The quest for a helicopter that can slip behind enemy lines without being heard or detected by radar has been the Holy Grail of military aviation for decades and until this week nobody had thought such a craft existed.
But aviation experts are now convinced that the Pentagon may have developed such an aircraft. They say the U.S. military went to extraordinary lengths to protect its new technology by destroying a helicopter that had been damaged in the raid, either during the initial landing or in the subsequent evacuation.
A section of the craft also survived intact, and photos of it leave no doubt in analysts' minds that the U.S. had modified a MH-60 Black Hawk into some kind of super-secret stealth helicopter the likes of which have never been seen before.

No they don’t.
Ah. That makes more sense. Thank you.
Remember the one that was shot down in serbia? Then about a week later one of our bombs blew the $hit out of the chinese embassy’s Garage in Serbia... because... um... our maps were not up to date... my bet is the same “accident” will happen in this case.
Pretty much SOP to prevent souvenir hunters from carting off critical fragments of the aircraft which might aid in determining what failed, causing the crash in the first place.
Well, maybe all those folks who were talking about ‘black helicopters’ weren’t so ‘nuts’ after all...
It was the WH version of events stating there was a mechanical failure.
Pakistanis say the rotor hit the wall as it was entering the compound.
Or you could believe the Pakistanis.
I thought it also had something to do with keeping the technology secret.
Believe the paks? Maybe not
I remember when an F-117 stealth fighter broke up and crashed in a suburban neighborhood near Balto. MD during an air show. The military blocked off the neighborhood until every bit of the plane had been removed.
I remember one that was shot down in Iraq. We never got that one back. The Chinese are probably still working on a clone.
It is all part of the game.
However, when civillians claim to see such, maybe those who so handily deride them as nutcases will give that derision a second thought.
I don’t understand - WHY did they leave that behind - what was the hurry? If it was that secret, couldn’t they have sent someone in to retrieve it?
