Gun Control: Under a program run by the Justice Department, weapons were knowingly sold to criminals suspected of links to Mexican drug cartels, with two guns ending up at the murder scene of a border patrol agent.
Considering how this administration has made a cause celebre out of gun control, the revelation of a program run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), in which weapons were transferred on purpose to Mexican drug cartels and criminals and then lost track of, is at best embarrassing and at worst an unconscionable dereliction of duty.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder, among others, have blamed the rising violence in Mexico by the drug cartels on the transfer of weapons from the U.S. by unscrupulous gun dealers and their "straw buyers" purchasers who may have legitimate credentials and purchase guns for those who can't legally obtain them.
Yet it seems we set up an operation that wound up doing exactly that.
While it has been demonstrated by us and others that most of the drug cartel weaponry comes from either foreign or Mexican military sources, ATF set up "Operation Gunrunner" ostensibly to trap American sources and their "straw buyers" in an elaborate sting. As documents unearthed have shown, this "sting" has gone terribly awry.
The program first came to light when ATF agent John Dodson told Fox News in March that the tactic of letting guns "walk" across the Mexican border was approved by his supervisors in the Phoenix ATF office over the objections of several agents who saw the program as ill-conceived and dangerous.

Embarrassing is putting it mildly.
I don’t know why conservative talk radio isn’t beating this subject to death. If it was a Republican scandal, you can bet the MSM would beat on it until some Republican either stepped down or got convicted.
With today’s tech, they probably could have had trackers in buttstocks and what not. Maybe when the trail pointed back to Chicago thugs and to DC, they went, uh oh.... we do not know what happened...
Moochelle orders tamali takeout!...

Why they did it is obvious. They wanted to show that guns were being sent across the border and this would have given them an excuse to control guns tighter. Planted evidence at the scene of a crime. Oldest trick in the books.
Thanks Kaslin.
Gonna go out on a limb and state that the US government should prolllllly avoid KILLING FED AGENTS....
And, the gov’t should also avoid, uh...knowingly arming Mexican NarcoTrafficantes....
I’m fussy...?
Think about it —finally in Mexico they are using car-bombings, just like Hezbollah, and in fact 4 months back they arrested a major Hezbollah commander down in Tijuana. And the gov’t was KNOWINLY supplying weapons to them?
If this was a Republican POTUS, there would be non-stop shrieking for the man to resign, and if he didn’t he’d be impeached.
re: “Planted evidence at the scene of a crime. Oldest trick in the books.”
That’s certainly a simple, and possibly accurate, explanation.
We should also note that Obama lived and worked in the same neighborhood as the US end of the Blackstone Rangers / El Rukn / Libya terror plot. In that plot, the Libyan government arranged for a federally-funded US community group to get large amounts of weapons and money in exchange for promises to carry out terrorist attacks in the USA. The US headquarters of the Blackstone Rangers / El Rukns was at 3947 S. Drexel Avenue, Chicago, IL, 1.6 miles from Obama’s current Chicago address. It’s hard to believe that an active community organizer in that area wouldn’t have had some contact with other community leaders (legitimate or illegitimate) in that area.
(full disclosure: I lived on Drexel Avenue, just a few miles from that HQ, when I was in medical school. I was not, however, a community organizer, and, to the best of my knowledge, I had no contact whatsoever with any community leaders from that area, other than leaders from the University)
I just think that the “gunwalker” case seems to have a lot in common with the Blackstone Rangers / El Rukn / Libya terror plot. “Gunwalker” may be a lot more than simple planting of evidence.
they probably could have had trackers in buttstocks and what not.Right , sure. If such devices could work at the ranges that would be useable.....
And not discovered within the weapons during any type of disassembly, the tracking data would have shown the guns walking .. South.
Yeah, that kind of insightful intel is well worth the deaths of scores of people in the process, yup.
Gun control ping!
Um, yes.
Thanks for the ping.
It's starting to feel less and less like the country I grew up in...
