That means it would have to be hooked to the transmission if it was the old type mechanical drive. Some of those used different plastic gears to show the correct speed for the different rear end ratios available. Simply “adjust” the plastic gear to show less miles driven or even disconnect occasionally.

Agreed. But,,, how many cars still use that? My 10 year old Highlander is all digital as far as I know. How does the car’s computer get this info nowadays? Some sorta sensor, or mechanically?

anything 'OBDII' [98 & newer] has the CPU and harness attatchment already mandated into compliance...it would be easy to check [and prolly built into the mandate] and possibly very hard to bypass the programming w/o being caught...the software 'upgrade' could/would be made available/mandated as well, for registration...
