Early accounts of ANY news story very often aren’t true. I’m not making any excuses for the administration, and they DO lie without a doubt, but I’m not at all surprised that the description of events is changing.

They watched the whole operation.

Panetta said they did not. THAT story keeps changing too. It is apparent from implication in most of the articles, that they did not watch it at all, and Obama etc, watched Panetta, or someone else, on a screen give updates.
