Live Thread for the Canadian General Election, May 2nd,2011
The party claimed to be the spiritual descendants of Cacareco, a Brazilian rhinoceros who was elected member of São Paulo's city council in 1958, and listed Cornelius the First, a rhinoceros from the Granby Zoo, east of Montreal, as its leader. Cornelius is still featured in the party's official logo. It declared that the rhinoceros was an appropriate symbol for a political party since politicians, by nature, are "thick-skinned, slow-moving, dim-witted, can move fast as hell when in danger, and have large, hairy horns growing out of the middle of their faces."
leading and elected numbers for the conservatives are now well into majority territory but nothing is a lock yet....total on the sun news website is 165 for the good guys at the moment
down to 164 now...squeeker ahead maybe
The CBC just called a Tory majority.
The CBC folks look like they’re about to slit their wrists. Remember kiddos, it’s down the road, not across the street! :D
Yes, Conservative Majority ... Conservatives in power for the next four years BABY!
Predictions for total % for Conservatives?
CBC CALLS IT! HARPER WINS!!!
Looks like about 165 seats. Bloc Quebecois and Liberal Party down about 44 seats each. NDP is the new, unified face of the socialist/statist Canadian.
The Winner and still Champion
It’s a good night. Ignatieff is losing in his riding. LOL
Hey buc, the Conservatives picked up 3 more seats in the Atlantic Provinces. We did our part. :)
I think they’re sitting on about 40% now, so that’ll probably be around where they finish.
Seeing the Liberals under 20% must delight our Canadian FReeper friends tonight.
It’s a somewhat stronger position in some areas, particularly fiscal. The other stuff... we’ll see.
Harper is amazing. I’ve lived through so many Cdn governments and someone doesn’t lead a series of minority governments for so many years to then get a majority government. He must be doing something right!! Good on him. :)
That’s a good question. There are many Conservatives/conservatives that are not happy with Harper ... and for good reason. The Harper Conservatives aren’t perfect by any means. However, compared to what the other parties offer, social conservatives, and Canada as a whole I believe, are still better off.
NDP Candidate in the Edmonton-Ledoc Riding is “Medvedev.”
Can Russian Presidents run for office in Canada?
I love it. When I was in high school in Woodstock in the late ‘70s my riding (was then Carleton-Victoria) was solid liberal. Then my generation grew up and saw the light and has been Tory for a long time (now Tobique-Mactaquac.)
I’ll trade you Obama for Harper! I’ll even through in a Joe Biden!
Woot!
