People need to think about this. If your child was being held by these people, would you approve of waterboarding to get your child back? I would approve anything.

It will not reopen the discussion because the U.S. media will BURY THIS! The last thing they want is President Bush getting any credit.

Iowahawk said it best: “America’s fastest growing faith: born-again waterboarders.” :)

I wonder if Shep Smith (Fox News) has any thoughts on this?

It is a great argument for keeping them detained (and isolated) until all the intel they have spilled is moot. If KSM had been able to reveal to some low level operative what he told to the interrogators, who was then later released, they would have run to the first al-Queda chief of any importance and told them that Bin Laden’s courier had been compromised.

...will reignite the debate over whether torture is a legitimate interrogation technique ...

First, how about a debate over whether water boarding is torture?

Every few months, some idiot journalist voluntarily undergoes water boarding and declares how awful it was. When was the last time you ever heard of some idiot journalist voluntarily undergoing any real torture, e.g., the rack, or electrocution, or having body parts burned or cut off?

Torture causes permanent physical harm and/or death.

Water boarding scares the crap out of you and convinces you that you are about to die without causing you any actual physical harm. That doesn't make it torture. That just makes it really effective.
