Enter Mitch, Michele, and Mike Mitch Daniels is likely, Im told, to announce his candidacy for the GOP presidential nomination in the next couple of weeks. Michele Bachmann will, I think, enter the race in June. And it now looks as if Mike Huckabee is also going to run. Saturday evening, while tout Washington was enjoying the White House Correspondents Dinnerand while some of us, I might add, were truly enjoying the lovely wedding of Mary Katharine Ham and Jake BrewerMike Huckabee was speaking to the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association in Pittsburgh. It was the right place to be if youre interested in the GOP presidential nomination. And by all accounts Huckabee gave a very effective speech, striking a populist tone while vigorously taking on Obamas agenda across the board, linking social and economic issues, and asserting I want you to know that I stand here tonight as a gun-clinger and as a God-clinger unapologetically. He closed with an anecdote:
The GOP presidential race begins to get interesting.
6:07 PM, May 1, 2011 By WILLIAM KRISTOL He recalled a family trip years ago to a Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem. He said he was comforted when his young daughter, at the end of the tour, wrote unbidden in the guest book: Why didnt anybody do something? Let there never be a time in this country when some father has to look over his daughters shoulder and see her ask the haunting question, why didnt somebody do something? he said. In this room, we are the somebodies and we commit we will do something to preserve this great American heritage.
Cain will run.
Huckabubble will not be giving up his TV show on FNC so he’s a NO GO
Daniels is a RINO and Bachmann is starting to fade under the bright lights.
Mitch and Mike...don’t even bother.
Michele...a Momma Grizzly.
I am not voting for anyone else besides Palin or whoever she endorses, period.
Have fun w obamao.
Daniels will sale out to the left. Huckabee is a rino who has changed his spots for electoral reasons and in the long run , Bachmann will prove to be a sale out too because she has become addicted to fame. Why else would a 3 term congress person think they were qualified to be President?
Something about Daniels leaves me unimpressed.
I'm not too worried about Daniels at this point. I'm open to hearing the case he makes for his candidacy.
It's too simplistic to say all tax increases are bad and all cuts are good. You need to look at how, why and the impacts.
The current code is enormous. It's ripe with corruption. Obama has a favorite crony capitalist in Immelt's GE. It paid nothing.
Small businesses, a cornerstone of the job market, are burdened because they can't buy such loopholes. We absolutely must get small businesses hiring again.
Huckabee is a non-starter. Rejected once before, he appears to be a "Christian Socialist." Add on top his "pardon problem" and he's just not desirable. Iowa will like him anyway.
I'd like to see a proven governor in the top spot. No coronations just because it's someone's "turn" whether it's Romney, Huckabee or even Palin.
Even as bad as things are, as bad as they may still be in 555 days at election day, it's going to be very difficult to unseat Obama. That should be our primary goal.
Anyone who suggests calling a truce os social issues doesn't understand the genesis of the conservative movement.
Our situation is so dire that we cannot afford to hold our nose again for another squishy Republican who'll just continue the status-quo.
If the Republicans nominate another RINO, I'm staying home.
Perhaps it was his recent cave in to the unions.
None of them has a chance at beating Obama. Bachmann may be the Duncan Hunter of this go-round (good on the issues but no way of becoming a credible candidate). Maybe she is running to be able to pull in more money from her direct-mail campaigns.
I’m thinkin’ these three are thinkin’ Palin won’t run.
States all around us have passed the legislation outlawing the gruesome procedure BUT here in Iowa the bill is languishing in the senate waiting for one more signature on a discharge petition to bring it to the floor for a vote.
Bachmann's statewide campaign manager, Kent Sorenson is refusing to sign the petition and if it dies because of a lack of signatures, Carhart comes to Iowa and starts killing babies.
Rumor has it that there could be a Democrat who will save the day. We're getting down to crunch time and we're doing everything to make sure the bill gets enough signatures.
