Trump to China: “Listen, you motherf***ers, we’re going to tax you 25 percent”

Via Mediaite, which has excerpts from last night’s F-bomb cavalcade. One of our commenters in Headlines watched the clip and observed that Trump is basically a leftist caricature of Republicans brought to life. Precisely — but with the caveat that something like 20 percent of the GOP wants to embrace the caricature. (That number might already be slipping.) He knows he’s too compromised on conservative principles to get traction with the base so he overcompensates with tell-it-like-it-is populist bravado aimed at framing himself as the ultimate regular-guy outsider. Calling the Chinese MFers is the logical extension of that; if he can’t address economic anxieties with a serious policy solution, at least he can do it with rhetorical empowerment. That’s why Reagan, who did have a serious Cold War strategy, didn’t have to say “Tear down this motherf***ing wall” instead.

Just to follow up on the point about leftist caricature, though, I’m intrigued by this tidbit from his trip to New Hampshire:

I've never liked populists; I prefer serious politicians to rabble-rousers.

Who cares. The F bomb is used daily in business. Was used in my Grandfathers day, Fathers day and my day. The only difference here is that there might have been kids listening. In most cases today, the punks kids talk much harsher than this. I am not sold on Trump yet but this language police thing is getting old.

I remember everyone clapping when Cheney called Clymer an A-hole. Why not. It was the most descriptive term to describe that vermin. When talking about taxes, I feel like screaming what Trump said hourly. When your country is collapsing quicker everyday, exclamation points might be warranted to wake people up.

Years of dumbed-down publik ejication have borne fruit: First the sheeple elect B. 0bama as President, then some of them realize that was a mistake, but want this foul-mouthed simpleton Trump to replace him.

As is so often the case, the great Thos. Sowell hit the nail on the head:

Donald Trump is dangerous in at least two senses. If, by some tragic miracle, he should become the Republicans' candidate for president in 2012, that would be the closest thing to an iron-clad guarantee of a second term in the White House for Barack Obama.

What seems more likely is that Donald Trump as a candidate for the Republican nomination would use his superior articulation skills-- not to mention brash irresponsibility-- to trash all the other Republican candidates for that nomination, leaving them damaged goods in the eyes of the public, and therefore less able to gather the votes needed to prevent the reelection of Obama.

Never heard Obummer say any profanities off the teleprompter. Does that mean he is a serious politician?

He would probably make Howard Stern his Secretary of State.

This guy disgust me more and more each time he opens his pie hole. Sad to see so many have a man-crush on this phony.

If this is all true, that about does it for me. He IS a buffoon.
I do not want to see our government sink to this level of discourse. It wont be long till there will be fist fights, beatings, and gunshots. Is that what we want?

I was in his camp, but now i am not.

"You wrongly assume that 25% tax will mean less ppl will work for Mcdonald and less Chinese making everything. It will do the exact opposite. It simply mean US government will have 25% more taxes, and Americans have 25% less money to buy stuff"

Heh. Last chance for revenues. Going, going,... I'm happy with it either way. We'll have better leadership after the default. And to dash the hopes of those who want to continue big, commie government, you can't have that without the sustainable revenues from a big manufacturing base. ...and no big government for long on worthless money, as we're about to see.

Yes, but the big disappointment for me is that so many so called conservatives were supporting Trump. I can understand some Obamabots and low information voters singing the praises of "The Donald", but conservatives? Trump isn't even a conservative to begin with. I suppose the "birther" stuff had such a strong hold on some people that they would support pretty much anyone pushing it. Either way, it's done now. The birth certificate conspiracy has been shot to pieces and with it any real reason some on the right were supporting Trump - throw in the video of his speech dropping repeated F bombs and I think it is safe to say it's over for Trump running as a Republican.

“Silly yankee...then no one would buy china yum yum...haha...It not happen, we give you cheap pork chop...yum yum...you go shop now.”

Actually, we have to, since we don’t make it ourselves. We might start making stuff...but that depends on whether the federal government decides to release its STRANGLEHOLD over our economy.

Trump certainly went in the right direction regarding drilling, I just want to hear about it overall, just as Reagan campaigned on.

“He actually said that he would put a stop to the chinese imports(or make it too difficult for them to import)so that we would start making products here again and of course put people to work.”

Given the STRANGLEHOLD that the government here puts on manufacturing, consumers will be in for quite a SHOCK, when they see what union-made (and even non-union made) stuff costs if it’s made here. We all may hate China, but be prepared to see double their prices (or more) on just about everything everything we produce.

That’s why I’m harping so much about our end of the deal...if we just choke off China, and don’t fix the US, we’re just strangling ourselves.

I think his point is we need China to open their market. And treat us as fairly as we treat them.

You sound like you don’t give a crap that countries restrict our imports.

“Nothing would make me happier than to bring jobs back (unless it would make the unions too uppity again which was part, but not all, of the problem). I fear it would be an uphill battle because he needs to address the root causes of why they left in the first place which are multiple. Then fight with environmental people. Then reverse trade agreements. He would need a great deal of help from Congress. So AFAIC it’s just talk at this point.”

Cool - you’re seeing through him also. The part about having to give large sums of money to Democrats because he lived in New York seems a bit non-credible.

“I wonder how he gets along with Sam Walton or how that would play with him. I’m still bitter about what Wal Mart did, promising when they opened they advertised they would only stock “made with pride in America.”, shortly became, if available, then you know the rest.”

I don’t hold a grudge against Walmart. They cater to the lower to middle classes and provide good stuff at great prices. The really had no choice regarding China...there simply wasn’t anything available in the US anymore at anywhere near the cost of Chinese stuff. They would have had to essentially re-start their business into something that no one has ever tried, which is to stick to the (few) things that Americans still produce. I just couldn’t see it working.

I have become convinced he is a Soros-paid plant intended to mount a Ross Perot-like challenge, and siphon of many percentage points so that Obama can squeak through again.
