The lizards live in the shinnery oak environment, and Texas has been trying to limit the growth of shinnery oak for decades.

We have one of the largest oak forests in the world just west
of us in the Sandhills. None of the trees over 2 feet high...
good ole shinnery oak! :) Those lizards can stay there...it’s
a national park. This is entirely a bogus issue...as most of
these hand-wringing useful idiots KNOW they are!
