Republican leaders on Thursday slammed President Obamas release of his detailed birth certificate as a distraction from the nations real concerns and attempted to point the finger at him for bringing heightened media attention to it.
Were borrowing four and half billion dollars a day and this president is more worried about birth certificates, Oprah Winfrey and fundraisers at the Waldorf Astoria, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Preibus said on CNN Newsroom, referring to Obamas decision to release his long-form birth certificate before flying to Chicago for an interview with Winfrey and later to New York for a fundraiser. Its maddening and I just wish the president would engage in the real issues that are affecting America.
Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who is exploring a run for president in 2012, tweeted: What President Obama should really be releasing is a jobs plan.
Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor, sent out this message to her followers Wednesday: Media: admit it, Trump forced the issue. Now, dont let the WH distract you w/the birth crt from what Bernanke says today. Stay focused, eh?
Palins message, referring to Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernankes press conference, was a deviation from the previous questions she has raised about Obamas birthplace, which she has called fair game.
Her recalibration continues a move by GOP leaders to tamp down the disproven conspiracy theory, with a Republican governor recently vetoing a so-called birther law and a GOP strategist calling it nutty.

Barack is investigating how to raise four and a half billion dollars ($4,500,000,000 US) per day, starting with raising that much for his re-election slush fund.
Ha.
I don’t think Obama’s birth certificate problem will actually go away anytime soon, but that’s a good way to play it.
There are still all kinds of doubts, and that latest COLB won’t settle it.
The vast majority of elected officials, party leaders, and conservative media argued against this issue from day one Nearly everyone. The left is falsely attempting to tie 99% of figures on pur side to something they did not ever side with.
Thanks AustralianConservative.
Now the MSM is making out the whole GOP as birthers. Did puppet Trump plan it this way?
According to the news tonight - I was all over the place watching the storm damage reports so can’t say where I heard it - there have been 600 tornadoes across the country since April 1st and on the 28th day the bozo decides to mention the weather. Just another “silly” subject, I guess.
Why does that sound like a democrat party release?
Sounds petty to me. Just the tone...not the content.
More time spent on the BC issue means less time answering questions on real issues.
This is no pivot. People have been saying forever, why doesn’t Obama just release his birth certificate and be done with it?
Not everyone lumped into the “birther” crowd was convinced Obama was not born in the U.S. or any such thing. They simply wanted him to respond reasonably to a tempest he himself created.
Moreover, some among the supposed “birther” crowd were mainly concerned with the fact that there is NO ESTABLISHED, MUCH LESS PUBLIC, PROCESS for verifying a president’s eligibility. Nor is there, in fact, an agreed-upon standard as to what constitutes a “natural born citizen.”
How lazy and clumsy of the forgerers. Maybe this is just the Messiah giving us the middle finger again as he did when talking about Hillary.
I also like the U K Lee (ukelelee) signature on the COLB. Who was the doctor? Don Ho?
There are still all kinds of doubts, and that latest COLB wont settle it.
Right, it's probably just getting started.
Washington Post's Krissah Thompson on 'Top Line'I thought it was weird that the WaPo writer seemed so fair to Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney.
I think Gov Palin should make the birth certificate issue an election plank
I hope the American people turn on him more and quickly. Big cracks are already showing. He looks like the next Jimmy Carter.
Agreed. It wont go away and the media has to take some of the blame. The issue is trust: both the media and Obama are untrustworthy. The certificate is a symbolic issue.
I agree. Team Hillary Clinton popularized the certificate hysteria and now theyre blaming Republicans.
Trump isnt perfect but he is no media tool. The Left are furious with him questioning Obamas education now.
He is out of touch to be sure.
