David Wilkerson was the author of the Cross and Switchblade and founding pastor of NYC Times Square Church. He also founded Teen Challenge. His wife Gwen was in the car wreck too. No news on her prognosis as of yet. Pray for the Wilkerson family.

His book, life, and ministry were a powerful testimony and he will be missed but there is no doubt that his ministry will continue until Christ returns.

There is no higher compliment I could give.

How terribly sad. God bless his family, give them peace and comfort. The thing that always helps me in times like this, is knowing the separation is only temporary. So hard on the family though.

I’m shocked. I’m praying for Mrs. Wilkerson to make a full recovery. I know David is with the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven right now, but it’s sad and a great loss for us.

May God bring peace to his family, friends, and the people in his Church.

Rev. Wilkerson got promoted today.

The Lord he served he now sees face to face.

His passing reminds us that we all have only a finite time to be about the Lord’s business and to affect others to the good.

“And inasmuch as it is appointed for man to die once, and after this comes judgment”—Hebrews 9:27.

But Jesus Christ has conquered death and hell. And it is Jesus Christ in which Rev. Wilkerson trusted as his Savior and Lord.

He was a true man of God. He has always provided the word for the time.
He was a powerful man of God without making headlines.
God be with his family. I know they will always feel his spirit. We shall all miss him.

If ever a man heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” when he passed from this life to the eternal, it was our brother David. Always faithful, confessing his weaknesses and frailties often, never ceasing in his fervency for the Lord and HIs people.

As every true man of God should, he always kept his face low to the ground, and indeed was a convicting example to all who have built their own glory and kingdoms on themselves, rather than on Christ.

A man who has always been a voice through whom God spoke - who will be sorely missed in these trying times that are only going to increase in difficulty. There is a vacuum in the body of Christ on this side, but not the eternal one.

May God fill that vacuum with many unknowns who are also faithful and true, who can speak His word to all they know around them as the days grow darker. May He fill it with Christ Himself becoming the “All-in-All” of every true believer.

And may our hearts cry more than ever - “Come, Lord Jesus! Come!”

I am totally stunned by news of the death of David Wilkerson today. His last blog was powerful confirmation for me today as I was at a hospice in MD today visting one of my best friends who is on his deathbed. The devotional is as follows:

“WHEN ALL MEANS FAIL
by David Wilkerson | April 27, 2011

To believe when all means fail is exceedingly pleasing to God and is most acceptable. Jesus said to Thomas, “You have believed because you have seen, but blessed are those that do believe and have not seen” (John 20:29).

Blessed are those who believe when there is no evidence of an answer to prayer—who trust beyond hope when all means have failed.

Someone has come to the place of hopelessness—the end of hope—the end of all means. A loved one is facing death and doctors give no hope. Death seems inevitable. Hope is gone. The miracle prayed for is not happening.

That is when Satan’s hordes come to attack your mind with fear, anger, overwhelming questions: “Where is your God now? You prayed until you had no tears left. You fasted. You stood on promises. You trusted.”

Blasphemous thoughts will be injected into your mind: “Prayer failed. Faith failed. Don’t quit on God—just do not trust him anymore. It doesn’t pay!”

Even questioning God’s existence will be injected into your mind. These have been the devices of Satan for centuries. Some of the godliest men and women who ever lived were under such demonic attacks.

To those going through the valley and shadow of death, hear this word: Weeping will last through some dark, awful nights—and in that darkness you will soon hear the Father whisper, “I am with you. I cannot tell you why right now, but one day it will all make sense. You will see it was all part of my plan. It was no accident. It was no failure on your part. Hold fast. Let me embrace you in your hour of pain.”

Beloved, God has never failed to act but in goodness and love. When all means fail—his love prevails. Hold fast to your faith. Stand fast in his Word. There is no other hope in this world.”

This is so powerful for me because as I was in the room with my friend who was in the last days/hours/minutes of his life and whose body was shutting down I read the 23rd Psalm and I was greatly comforted by verse 4:

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,* I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me. All I can say is wow!

I think it apropos to borrow a Jewish custom here and praise the Lord for his life. He’s not the one with problems now.
